Boys Don't Cry

Rented it from Blockbuster the other day. I thought it was great. Hilary Swank was really good. Has anyone else seen it? Opinions? Careful posting spoilers.

I saw the movie in the theaters and cried. I think it is a wonder movie and Hilary Swank was out of this world!
The only problem is, I won’t see the movie again because I have problems with rape sceens in movies. They always wierd me out, but I have encouraged everyone I know to see the movie.

y’all should watch the documentary “The brandon Teena Story” it was made first… I predict that after watching it you, like I will be shocked at the remarkable likenesses acheived by Hilary Swank and Brandon’s red-haired girlfriend in “Boy’s Don’t Cry.” It’s really amazing.

Before watching this film, I had no incling as to what it was about. I had quite a surprise. It was a really good film though, although not exactly a feel-good film!!! But definitely worth watching.

That’s the only reason I haven’t seen it. If I get freaked out fairly easily at that kind of stuff (had to leave the room during The Accused before I threw up,) , should I rent it?

Swiddles, you should see this movie! As mentioned above, it is not a feel good movie, but the acting is great. I had to psych myself up for it, because you have to be in the right mood to watch it (I have Amistad on tape, still in its wrapper, because I haven’t been able to muster up the emotional strength to deal with it). I knew something about the story for BDC, and curiosity finally got the better of me. I was uncomfortable and squirming the whole time, but I am glad I saw it. In fact, I think I am going to buy it later. I think I am going to buy the book as well.

I’m in Nebraska. And I remember when the whole thing happened. Yes, it’s most likely a little slower-paced in this part of the country, but that was still a shocking crime. Not the gender aspect of it. The whole thing. I haven’t seen the movie, although I don’t doubt it’s rivoting. Gonna be a long time before I’m able to watch it and be the least bit detatched. I don’t look for it to be factual. A good film based on an actual occurance maybe. Factual, I doubt. That’s okay, though. They didn’t make any promises.
Wow, it amazes me how bummed I still get about it after all this time…

OK, I saw the movie. I thought it was shot beautifully and was technically marvelous. What irked me is the girl who played Teena (forgot her name)

  1. Talked like Beavis. I couldn’t stand tha fact that she had to add “uhhh” to the beginning and end of every sentence.

  2. Totally, completely, did NOT look like a man. I mean, come on, she just didn’t pull it off. She’d sit there in a bar, all five feet of her, sitting next to guys twice her size with thick beards.

I certainly appreciated the lesbian make-out scenes, though

Actually, I had a hard time keeping it in my mind that Hilary Swank was a girl. I don’t know about anyone else, but I have seen my fair share of people that I could not figure out what the heck they were. One second, you look at them and think, “yeah, that’s gotta be a girl,” then you look at them in a different light and change your mind.

Anyway, I bought Hilary’s act. I thought she did a great job and was convincing.

Sorry friedo, maybe you saw a different film?..
I’m with Michi, I thought she was completely convincing.

I was able to sit through the rape scene because I had been warned about it ahead of time. If a scene like that had appeared when I was totally unprepared for it, I probably would have had to get up and leave the room, too.
