Great Movies You Never Want to See Again

I was thinking about what were the best movies that I have ever seen, and I noticed that there were a couple films at the top of my list that I never wanted to see again. The biggest one i can think of is Schindler’s List. I probably wouldn’t have seen that movie if my high school hadn’t made everyone watch it together in the theatre. You’ve never heard such a hush fall on over 100 high school kids as after that movie.

This got me wondering, does anyone else have a movie that they thought was tremendous, but had such an effect on them that they didn’t want to watch it ever again?

For me, that would be Sling Blade

The little kid, Frank, reminded me of my nephew. I couldn’t stop bawling for 30 minutes after we left the theatre. I can’t sit through it again.

The Thin Red Line.

And The Accused.

Gone With the Wind. Scarlett O’Hara really irritates me.

I agree with ‘Schindler’s List’. Just too much. EVERYONE should see it though.

I have quite a few movies on my “best ever” list that I have only seen once and have no desire to see again:

Platoon
Schindler’s List
Gandhi
Good Will Hunting
The Deer Hunter
Saving Private Ryan

Leaving Las Vegas and …crap, I totally blanked on the title - the Mel Gibson William Wallace one with the blue face paint.

Glad I saw 'em both. Never want to put myself through that again.

Braveheart. Ugh. Mel Gibson should NOT be allowed to make historical films!

Gandhi
Mean Streets

Seven (merciful God)
Beloved (actually I just read the book, but the harrowing subject matter kept me out of the theatre)
Pink Flamingoes (sorry, fans)
…and just about anything that has a really graphic rape scene in it. Somewhere around "98 I suddenly became burnt out on graphic portrayals of violence against women. I mean, more than usual.

A.I. I know it’s not really classic or anything, but I thought it was really well done, I just never want to see it again, ever.

Kids

A Clockwork Orange.

I saw it for the first time while I was in high school, then read a copy of the screenplay, then saw it again when I was in college, and I remember sitting there and thinking, “Okay, I KNOW this movie backwards and forwards now, and I don’t EVER have to see this movie again, if I don’t wanna.”

Oh, and I listened to the soundtrack, too. Didn’t Wendy Carlos do the musical arrangements?

Ooh, Ike, good one - I saw A Clockwork Orange in a double feature with Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Never again, for either.

American Beauty – I loved it, but Spacey dead on that table and the detritus of his death is more than I can see again.

Whoa! Some spoiler warnings if you’re going to give away the end of the movie, please!

For me, I’d have to go with The Piano. Great film, loved it, can never bear to see it again. Ditto Saving Private Ryan. I can never ever ever stand to sit through that opening sequence again, no way, no how.

Lawrence of Arabia. My favorite part was the one with the giant sucking mouth under the hovercraft.

There are a few that everyone ELSE thinks is great, but I don’t want to see again. Seven Samuri is one…

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. A masterpiece of psychological horror and a most unwanted glimpse into the banality of evil.
