even though they’re good. My son had been wanting to see Bad Lieutenant for forever. I saw it in the movies and any time he grabbed it at the video store I told him, “He’s a really, really bad lieutenant. Put it back.” Since it was NC-17, he had to listen. Well, he’s now 17, has access to Netflix and ordered it.
This is a good movie. The gritty hyper-reality sticks to you like scummy grease and makes you dirty. I did not want to watch again. Another movie I never want to watch again is Blue Velvet. Too much degradation for me to feel comfortable with. Blue Velvet was hard to watch through the first time.
Are there any movies that were good but you never want to see again?
AI was far too disturbing for me to ever want to see again, plus the ending sucked. Series 7: The Contenders is another, it was far too real; I’m not sure how I was able to sit through it once. That being said I think it’s an excellent movie, and reccomend it to everyone who watches reality TV. No one should ever see AI though.
Trainspotting. I thought it was a good movie but man do I not want to see that again. And that’s tricky, since it’s one of my best friend’s favorite movies.
Grave of the Fireflies is a fantastic movie, one that I own on DVD and that I often reccommend to people, that I don’t believe I’ll ever want to watch again.
For the benefit of those who haven’t seen these movies, I’ll put my reasons in spoiler boxes.
Full Metal Jacket.
That scene where the sniper keeps shooting the fallen American soldier, taunting the soldiers who are hiding, trying to draw them out by repeatedly blasting painful chunks of non-vital flesh and muscle out of the guy’s body … that was really disturbing. And then they find out that the sniper is just a twenty-something girl and have to decide how to kill her… shudder
Life is Beautiful.
Oh, come on! How anybody could watch this movie more than once? How can you enjoy Guido’s (I think that’s his name … it’s been years since I saw this) antics knowing that he’s going to be cruelly murdered right before the film ends?
The Hot Chick. Worst movie I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Literally, 3/4 of the audience fell asleep at some point during this flick, and that would have included me if I was able to sleep in chairs. Awfull.
Strangeland. Hey let’s watch people get tortured for an hour and a half. Wee.
I watched the second The FLy with Jeff Goldblum up to the point of the inside out dog. I am not squeemish, but there was just something about it that I couldn’t handle, and I have never been able to watch the movie since then.
Slight hijack, King’s Rose Madder disturbs me, because he is spot on when he describes how she is brainwashed by her abusive husband, and the amazing blast of terror just thinking that she saw him. Even after 17 years I can get a blast of terror if I see someone who looks like my exfiance the way he looked then [I know he looks drastically different now.]
I agree the ending of “AI” could have been better but I thought over all it was a great movie.
I saw the movie “Platoon” once and I like to think of Americans as the good guys but that part where the soldiers terrorized the villagers and one of them beat a retarded guys skull in with a rifle in front of his mother was so disturbing I guarantee I will never rent that movie again.
I would have to second Requiem for a Dream. That is one of the few movies that I can think of that truly show the horror of drug addiction. Even though it is a good movie that I recommend to everyone, I don’t know if I could sit through it again.
