In the spirit of dantheman’s thread about DVDs, I figured the “more music, less film” people needed a place to spout off about their goodies. I’ll only go on and on about those that I’ve listened to at least 4 or 5 times already.
Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros - Global a Go-Go
I wasn’t terribly familiar with these fellows, Joe’s last band, but this CD is solid gold. Unusual as all hell, but awesome stuff.
The Clash - London Calling
I had the Clash’s first album and liked it, but with this one I finally see why they are considered legends and why this album is in every “Top 100 of all time” list.
Elvis Costello and the Attractions - Armed Forces
Again, I had Costello’s first two albums (I like My Aim is True better than This Year’s Model). This one wasn’t a big departure from those, but it’s another solid record.
Pinhead Gunpowder - Jump Salty
Kind of an obscure band. I love this record, though. Melodic and calm where it needs to be, but brash and hard overall.
The Beta Band - The 3 E.P.s
Woo, this was an odd disc. I’m not sure whether I love it or whether I’m not understanding it.
Others: Common Rider - This is Unity Music
Reel Big Fish - Why Do They Rock So Hard?
Pinhead Gunpowder - Goodbye Ellston Avenue
The Pietasters - Turbo
Yello:
-Eye
-1980-1985: The New Mix In One Go
-Zebra
-Stella
-One Second
-You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess
As a huge Yello fan, it was great to snag these six CD’s. I also picked up a half-dozen Yello LP’s, for collection’s sake (and my buddy just got a turntable, so I’m golden, baby).
Weakerthans - Fallow
Death Cab For Cutie - Something About Airplanes
Guided By Voices - Isolation Drills
Bad Brains - I Against I
Minutemen - Double Nickels On The Dime
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth
Postal Service - Give Up
MC5 - Kick Out The Jams
Blur - The Great Escape
Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Shins - Oh, Inverted World
Rapture - Echoes
I love 'em all, but the Minutemen CD is probably the best, followed by Sigur Ros and The Shins.

Jet - Get Born - has that “1-2-3 Tell Me How it’s Gonna Be…” song on it from the Apple iTunes commercial. Great great rock album - a cross between AC/DC and Bachmann-Turner Overdrive.
New Pornographers - Electric Version. Great Power Pop.
OutKast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - worth it for Hey Ya and I Love the Way you Move, but both CD’s have other great stuff, too. Andre 3000’s the Love Below is all over the place - in a good way. Somebody loved Prince when they were younger, that’s for sure.
Big Star - 2 Albums on 1 CD - from 1972/73. I already put up a thread on this. Easily the best CD I have heard in 10 - 15 years. The Beatles from Rubber Soul meet the Byrds with a dash of Southern boogie thrown in. Buy it immediately.
A few others (a Dylan collection, and Simon and Garfunkel collection, Joni Mitchell’s Blue). It has been a good music month.
Yes The Yes Album Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express Truth, Closer To It Camel Mirage, The Snow Goose Climax Blues Band FM/Live Deep Purple Purpendicular FM Black Noise Ten Years After Cricklewood Green
Excelsis: A Dark Noel. It’s a goth Christmas CD, consisting of big name goth bands covering Christmas carols. A couple are not good (although to be fair, there’s only so much you can do with “Little Drummer Boy”), some are OK, but most of them are hauntingly beautiful, and a welcome change from the upbeat, peppy pablum that we have to listen to these days.
Four CDs by Banda el Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga including Nuestra Historia which I recommend. Doug Sahm’s Juke Box Music and The Last Real Texas Blues Band . . . much thanks to my sister-in-law. Built to Spill’s Keep it Like a Secret and Panjabi MC’s Mundian To Bach Ke (not the one with Jay-Z) have some really good stuff besides the well-known singles and I’m glad I got them.
Mr2001 - thanks for mentioning the No Doubt CD, I’ve been gone for a while and hadn’t heard about it.
