Yeah an excuse to introduce you ladies to www.lavielamour.com full disclosure, I work for the company. This is hands down the nicest lingerie I’ve ever had and it’s priced great. If you have any questions please send me a message.
Very nice if you like that sort of thing - but it is COMPLETELY not my style. And I’d rather die than get into an underwire.
To follow on Broomstick’s post – WTF is it with underwires? I mean, I currently wear a 36B. Smallish B at that. (Thank you thank you thank you nice plastic surgeon…) I do not need underwires. After the surgery, I swore I would never wear underwires again anyway. Finding bras that work without them is…well, this isn’t the Pit, but it’s a huge pain. Why? Cheap bras, expensive bras, they almost all have friggin’ underwire!!!
I’ve got nothing against Target, except that they don’t carry my bra size, generally!
I’d move into my local Target, if I could.
I’m about your size and on the other end of things, I love underwires. I don’t even go for a push-up effect or anything otherwise gravity-violating, but I can’t imagine being comfortable in a bra without something similar. I couldn’t be comfortable, I don’t think, in a bra from the first linked company.
Isn’t that weird? I’m an AA, and still 90% of the bras I see in my size have underwires! (Either that, or they have less structure than a hair scrunchie.)
Actually, for this thread it should’ve been Erin Go Bra-less. Before Hasbeenagins went out of business, I always thought they should offer that as a dish. It consists, of course, of two breasts of chicken…with nothing on them.
In addition to getting a fitting, Nordstrom can also help if slipping straps are a problem. They sell an inexpensive silicone strap holder thingy to slip underneath your bra straps. They’re a godsend for those of us with narrow shoulders.
AA? That makes no sense. Why get poked by underwires when you hardly need a bra at all?
I need to go bra shopping, and I am not looking forward to it.
Although I agree with the first sentence, I don’t get the second one. Seriously, how are some of you repeatedly being poked by the underwires? Is it even one that fits right?
I’ll be the first to admit I probably do not wear my correct size (I have bras from 36C to 34DD), but only once have I been “poked” by an underwire. It snapped. The bra went straight to the trash.
Someone correct me in this, but I suspect that someone who is getting poked all the time by the underwires is probably not wearing the right fit, or anything close to it.
I cannot imagine myself NOT wearing underwires, except in the case of sport bras, in which I use the Ennell bras touted around in this board (love it).
Well, I’m a bit oddly proportioned, but when I was wearing a D (probably should have been DD but I couldn’t bring myself to do it) the underwires would poke my sides up near my armpits. I guess it hasn’t occurred to me that they don’t do that to everybody.
But I still hate them. They’re fine for those who like them, but not all of us do, and I wish the bra manufacturers would realize that.
I agree. I’ve only ever been poked by an underwire that had worn through the lining of the bra. If the bra is in good shape and fits you correctly, the underwire shouldn’t be poking you anywhere.
I was being poked when I was still stuffing myself into a C. That’s actually what prompted me to go get measured…I had bruising on the side of each breast where the underwire was digging into me.
Now that I’m wearing the right size there’s no underwire jiggery pokery.
Bras are not comfortable, not wearing a bra for me is less comfortable. I just wear tank tops with shelf bras to sleep in, but I need something or its painful.
I am totally with the OP. I hate bras. They suck and are equivalent, in my mind, to men’s ties. Strapped in to meet a societal norm, yikes!
Fortunately I was blessed with breasts small enough not require any real wrangling. If wearing something transparent I would simply wear a singlet. It was really great and I road that wave well into my late 40’s.
But with time, I bulked up to a personal best of 117 lbs, and suddenly I was faced with wearing a bra, daily. With no experience in buying or sizing, no familiarity with what was out there or where to start. Bleck.
I did get properly sized, and had a friend take me around. Bought an expensive bra, I never wear, made out of some space age material. Bought a near bra ish thing made of T shirt material that I wore to death, but wasn’t really what I needed.
Armed with the right size, and sticking to 100% cotton, I have found the best fit and comfort combination, for me, is an underwire bra that I then make a couple of snips into and remove the wires from. Very comfy, support where I want it, nice fit. It works for me.
But when the revolution comes the bra makers will be the first to go!
For you and other small breasted women, sure and yea. For women with more tissue there, bras (or anything that will provide support and keep them from bouncing) are better.
I cannot imagine myself running or doing the exercise I do without them. And like Dangerosa said, sometimes sleeping with some support is better than sleeping without.
I am insanely jealous of anyone who can gripe about how uncomfortable a bra is. Because even an uncomfortable bra is more comfortable than no support - which leaves my shoulders and back aching and my breast tissue sore and painful.
And as much as I’ll gripe about the discomfort of my own breasts, I’m still doing better than my sister who only needs a bra to hold her fake breasts in place after her mastectomy. The is always someone worse off then you.
All I know is that I really, really wish they would stop putting underwire in B cup bras. Seriously, what exactly do you think underwire is going to do for someone who’s that small? It’ll be uncomfortable, and…well, as far as I can tell, that’s it.
Would it work for push up or demibras styles?
For some of you ladies who are smaller up top and don’t like underwire, this bra is cute and might be of interest to you.

This one is a bandeau style and again would work for those of you who don’t want underwire.

And this is a cute set that again is non-underwire and only $37!

I am larger on top (36D) and need an underwire and padding in my bra. I only have problems with underwire when they get twisted in the wash, or pop out of the material. I personally wouldn’t ever wear a bra without one. But to each their own and now after reading what all of you ladies have to say I think we’ll have to increase our options for those who don’t want an underwire and make it more clear as to which bras have underwire and which don’t, maybe even adding it as a selection option.
