He signed for AS Monaco for 45 million Euros just over a year ago, so Arsenal would really need to dig the cheque book out.
Sure not 45 milliones pesos! 45 million Colombian pesos is about US$24 thousand.
Starting converting 45 million Euros and you’re getting close to scientific notation territory. A 115 billion COP salary is simply unfathomable in Colombia.
I am the only one swooning a bit over James Rodriguez? And I don’t just mean in a platonic sense.
That’s not salary, it’s the transfer fee the club paid another club. If Arsenal want him, they’ll have to pay Monaco (or wait till his contract is up).
Ah… brings it back down to reality.
Rodríguez is cute indeed. And a good player.
I don’t want to turn this into an Arsenal transfer rumors thread, but I’m quite sure Arsenal could afford any transfer fee asked for.
In other news, Uruguay doesn’t look like they’re in this match. The might pull a goal back, but I don’t see them finding an equalizer after that. And Colombia may have more goals in them here.
Must stop scratching my cheek. Keeps messing up my face paint.
Yeah, James only makes 15 billion Colombian Pesos a year.
Isn’t a brilliant international tournament performance the way Arsenal got Arshavin? How did that pan out?
With a transfer fee of that size he’ll be getting on the order of 100,000 Euro a week in salary. Perhaps a lot more - Monaco are a wealthy club, and it’s a long contract they’ve got him on.
There’s nothing like a good strong Colombian first thing in the morning.
The reports I read said 6 million Euro per annum. Not bad.
Colombia has been better than Uruguay today, but the Colombians should give Ospina a big pat on the back at the end of the game. He’s made some very nice saves, and Uruguay could have had one or two goals if it weren’t for him.
I’m already looking forward to the Brazil/Colombia quarter-final. I hope the cafeteros bundle the Brazilians out.
I suspect Arsenal’s best chance of signing him was before the world cup. Right now he will have the choice of clubs. That’s not to say he wont choose Arsenal, but I think the competition to sign him just got a whole lot tougher.
Not so fast, but I do expect another good and close match.
And tomorrow, I’ll be cheering for my second team, Mexico.
I’ll cheer on Mexico tomorrow. And let’s be realistic, cheer for Costa Rica too.
But I’ll have to cheer on my *Cafeteros *on July 4th!
Hmmm… I tried calling Mrs Iggy in Colombia just now but for some reason she isn’t answering the phone. Probably can’t even hear it over the sounds from the street!
In other weird news, it seems that Suarez isn’t the only cannibal on the loose in Brazil. Police confirms that an England fan had part of his ear bitten off during the England-Uruguay match on 19 June.
This is why you have a goal keeper. If your keeper can’t do this, you have to find a new one. Ospina was never under such great pressure, really. Uruguay’s last-minute efforts were half-hearted.
Thanks for that blinding insight into the game of football. You have a goalkeeper to protect the goal? No kidding! I’ve been watching all these years and never cracked the riddle of the guy with the gloves!
Sorry, but he made a couple of very nice saves. Whether the team’s whole effort was half-hearted or not, there were a couple of times during the game when he did well.
He made a pretty good stop on a shot about seven or eight minutes before half-time, a very nice save on a blast in the 64th minute, did a good job of coming out and making himself big to keep out a Uruguay attack in the 80th minute, and then made a good, low stop to his right in the 84th minute.
I’m not arguing that he was the only thing between Colombia and a loss, but he had a good game. You can only stop the ones that come at you, and that’s what he did.
Agreed on Ospina. He had a fantastic game and some of those shots were not easy to stop.
