All the Colombians in town (and there are a lot of them) seem to be driving around town at the moment blowing their horns and waving flags.
Even if I’m not watching, I can usually tell when a World Cup game is over when I start hearing honking horns outside from those who were rooting for the winning team.
For anyone who wants to cheer for Costa Rica vs Greece (which I assume is everyone), I have been informed by my Costa Rican cousin that the proper thing to yell at the TV is “oooooooooooeeeeeeeeeeee ooooooooopppppppppeeeeeeeeee oooooooooeeeeeeeeeeeee Ticos Ticos!”.
(I assume that the second word there is pronounced “Oh-pay”, but he didn’t give me any clue as to the proper rhythm.)
How can it be a penalty, when the last person with control of the ball was another Mexican player? When the other player slide thru, the ball was in no one’s position, but the previous holder was another Mexican player, not the Dutch, at least in one of the camera angles.
So not giving a penalty for the Dutch player being taken out twice by two different Mexican players in one move shows an impressive level of incompetence by these officials.
The Mexican might have been the last guy to touch it, but as the players chased the ball, the Mexican guy behind the Dutch player kicked his foot from behind, and then the Mexican player coming in from the front took his legs out from under him.
Edit: I’m not sure why it matters that the last person in control of the ball was a Mexican player. You don’t have to be in control of the ball (or have the ball at all) to receive a penalty. All it requires is that a member of the attacking team is fouled in the box.
He definitely didn’t have control of the ball when the second player slammed in. As to the first player, I admit I didn’t see that part from the camera angle replay (just caught after).
