Brasil 2014

Well, that’s an extremely disingenuous summary of the play. A foul had been called and the player was trying to slow the free kick. It was wrong to put his hands on him, but it was minor and certainly didn’t deserve a yellow. The flop merely underlined the fact that it wasn’t a serious collision.

ETA: I am basing this on one replay I saw 30 minutes ago. I accept that I could be wrong. But I don’t have time to rewind right now.

Any push on someone on the floor is deserving of a yellow. And push is putting mildly.

Man, this is an ugly game.

Yeah. I’m so glad I rushed home from work for it.

He wasn’t on the floor, he was charging in front of Messi to slow the free kick. Push is putting it mildly. It was a nudge.

But really, it was a minor play an hour ago. Just goes to show how awful and devoid of chances this game has been.

I’m beginning to think you didn’t see the incident or are thinking of a different one.

He was on his hands and knees, getting up.

We’ll have to wait for the YouTube video. Yes, he was getting up directly into Messi to block the free kick.

I would like to boot both these teams out, and give Chile a special pass back into the competition.

Chile? I’d prefer Algeria.

Yes !!!

Stalemate ended. Engineered by Messi, of course.

I’d be happy with that too.

And once again a piece of Messi brilliance saves an otherwise-very-average Argentina. The finish was fine, but Messi’s lead-up made the goal.

And that is part of the reason Messi is the best player in the world.

Finally. Very lucky if they can avoid penalty kicks.

Argentina have a lot of problems. I still don’t fancy them getting anywhere near the finals.

The goalie got caught leaning the wrong way - that shot wasn’t particularly tucked away in that corner. Still, Messi + 10 soldiers on.

WOW, post. Also, a goalie bicycle kick. Just tell anyone who missed this game to watch the last five minutes and ignore the rest.

I’d go with either of these. Boring game and Argentina scrapes by.

Thank fuck that’s over.

The last five minutes of that game almost made up for the first 115.

No kidding. These last five or so minutes suddenly exploded with action… He didn’t score the winning goal, but clearly Messi won this for Argentina, again.

Yeah, i wish i’d turned the game on ten minutes ago.

And it’s the first game of the knockout round that i can say that about. All the rest have been worth watching, and a few have been truly outstanding.
