Sounds like I made the right choice to watch the amazing tennis instead, and only catch the last ten minutes of this.
Yes, for 115 or so minutes, it was little more than a frustrating stalemate, with a paucity of creativity at either end. The last few minutes though were amazing!
I’d go with Mexico over either Chile or Algeria.
OK so good thing the boring matches are on the days I have to work, so I don’t miss something great.
When all is said and done I think Argentina was the better team and deserved to go ahead. They did raise their game in the second half.
Yes I think they did just enough to deserve it but, like Will Munny said “deserve’s got nothin’ to do it”.
They’ll be well aware that it isn’t enough to play like that and let Messi pull you out of the shit time and time again.
What it really interesting is the fact that none of the teams are stepping up and really turning it on. Colombia have probably been the most consistent but I don’t think we can say anyone is head and shoulders above the rest.
Say Belgium win tonight we have a group of 8 teams that are tough to separate.
Still sticking with Germany though.
I can’t watch. What’s the overall story so far?
Some real sustained pressure by the Belgians over the last ten minutes. This game is certainly more entertaining than the earlier one.
Edit:
Fabian Johnson off with an injury.
US with a few sparks but looking very poor on the whole, and Belgium have had some quality chances. Geoff Cameron already on a yellow. Fabian Johnson coming off right now at 31’ with a pulled hamstring; Yedlin coming in.
Belgium playing a little too fancy - One pass too many on a couple of occasions. USA getting their chances despite shaky play.
If the U.S. doesn’t pick it up, they will lose. Belgium is getting too many opportunities to miss them all.
Yeah, there were a couple of times when the Belgians passed when they should have shot, and shot when they should have passed.
When Vertonghen got behind the US defense on the left of the penalty area, he should have just blasted it at the goal, and hoped that someone would get the rebound if Howard saved.
The quality of crosses and final passes from both teams has been pretty ropey.
Where is Beckerman?
Retired I believe.
How the hell did Belgium miss that?
He’s on the bench.
He’s also on a yellow card, so if he gets one in this match, and the US goes through, he misses the next one.
The Belgians have great lead-up play and terrible finishing today.
If the US-Belgium game comes to penalties (which I don’t think it will, but hey, I didn’t think we’d get this far with a 0-0 score), which team has the advantage? I’d guess Belgium, but I’m not sure.
They call it a lottery because it really is.
Tim Howard to the rescue again!
And again!
