Other people have given good counters to this claim, but I had one very specific question. Precisely which shot did Brazil take where you think they were unlucky not to score?
Certainly it won’t erase the memory of this dismal performance, but I’m sure they want to salvage some pride from this World Cup, for themselves and for Brazil.
I want to make it clear that I don’t buy this for a second (I think 7-1 flattered Brazil), but this scoreline (assuming it accurately reflects the play) is still something of a blowout by the Germans.
If you had been told, before the game, that a 4-2 German win was an accurate reflection of the match, a semi between two of the heavy favorites, this still is an embarrassing result for Brazil. Even the most generous interpretation possible of events for Brazil makes them look historically awful.
And they weren’t historically awful, they were worse than that. Cameroon would’ve thumped them today. Panama would’ve beat them.

Yep, same here. I have had a strong dislike of them after their goalkeeper against France in 1986 introduced a twelve year old amanset to the concept of the professional foul.
[/QUOTE]Well, if you want to dislike a team for egregious fouls (you must have been 8 at the time), you might as well dislike the german side.
Poor french. They never seem to be on the winning side in these cases…
Yeah, it sure seemed Germany could have won 12-0 if they hadn’t taken their foot off the gas.
Apparently Brazil is still haunted by losing 2-1 to Uruguay in the 1950 final. Those guys would seem to finally be off the hook now.
I’ve been trying to come up with an analogy to another sporting event, and I haven’t been able to. For example, Seattle killed Denver in the Super Bowl, and it was a surprisingly thorough beatdown. But it didn’t feel anything like this Brazil game, at least to me. This felt legitimately unbelievable, to the point that it was almost disorienting.
This article may help you translate it to other contexts, but, yeah, I had that “is this really happening” feeling, too.
Well that is very kind of you, it may help you to imagine me pointing with the stem of a pipe and pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose as I make my sage proclamations (I use neither and it adds not one jot of accuracy but it is a good image
)
Hup Holland!
I hope there’s no truth to the rumors that Dennis Bergkamp is dressing for the Dutch today.
I see that Argentina brought back Rojo but kept Gago out for now. The ESPN analyst Santiago Solari seems to think that DiMichelis is going to be exposed by Robben. I guess that matchup will be key.
I think Brazil will come back strong on Saturday, especially if they play Argentina. Which I expect–I think the Dutch will win today. And now off to fire up ESPN3!
Hoping Robin van Persie is in better shape than in the march against Costa Rica.
The orange shirts on white shorts is kind of garish. Why couldn’t they just do orange-on-orange?
Fuck. Mascherano looks like he’s very concussed.
It seems they’re putting him back for now. Perhaps to be replaced later.
And was that TV problems, or the orange colors playing me, but what happened on Netherland’s side?
They’ll need to improve. Argentina have looked stronger so far.
Scrappy game with only that Messi free kick really. In the other game Germany already had five by now of course.
Yes, I agree, but they haven’t scored five goals yet. ![]()
Dutch are playing it too conservatively in the midfield. Pass it forward people!
The Argentinians are playing fantastic defense so far, just like earlier in the tourney. Very disciplined and great tackling.
