Brasil 2014

WatchESPN streams normal ESPN programming in real time. ESPN3 shows specific events that may or may not also be broadcast on one of the 800 ESPN TV channels.

World Cup thread posters got each others backs. The video feed posts were more interesting than the current Iran Nigeria game at any rate

They’ve got J.J. Abrams directing sports now?

Maybe it’s a viral marketing campaign for Half-Life 3.

An hour to go till the USA v Ghana game. It’s midnight here in St. Petersburg. Tomorrow the Russians will play Korea yet another hour later (2 AM). Dunno if I can do that one. The result of the Germany - Portugal game will mean a lot - yet these two teams should play like it’s elimination time.

Ha!

I see we’ve been spoiled so far, but this is one lousy game.

I didn’t know that, and now I’ve got Iran-Nigeria streaming on my computer. Thanks! I was going to be really disappointed only watching the weekend games on ABC, and now (apparently) I can watch any of the games I want to. That’s great!

Yeah, but if the Germans have already qualified as group winners by the time they meet the “Merkans” (something that looks more and more likely after today’s romp) then the USMNST might be able to snag a point, at least, off of them (I’ve seen that sort of thing happen before - in 1998 when Brasil won its group with a match to spare and then up popped Norway to beat them in their last group match and claim a second round spot. And Norway didn’t have the benefit of a Norwegian managing the Brasil team). 'Course, if the USMNST doesn’t beat Ghana’s team today then that all probably become moot, at least as far as the USMSNT is concerned.

A few years ago I would have said, “No” but I’ve seen this kind of thing out of the Dutch team before (2008, anyone?) - a fast start followed by a fizzle. I have a feeling that a similar scenario for the Dutch will play itself out this time, as well.

Yup. At least it looks like the Bosnians will be able to take both of these.

Essien and Boateng not in Ghana’s starting lineup tonight. Either they’re injured or Ghana is supremely confident.

Things seem to be breaking in USA’s favor.

Yes, they looked much, much better against Argentina last night than those two sides.

I wouldn’t get too excited about that prospect, if I were you. It’s only the first match for each. First matches are not when tournaments are won and lost. Heck, even I got on the Germans’ bandwagon after they saw the English and the Argentines off by a combined 8 - 1 four years ago and you all saw what happened to them next game. It’s still early - WAAAY too early - to be penciling anybody into the Final just yet (or, for that matter, to be counting any teams out of the tournament after only one match, either. Well, okay - maybe a few teams can basically be counted out already…the Socceroos. The Samurai Blue {ahem}).

I was hoping we’d make it through all the first set of games without a draw, particularly a 0-0 draw… just stoppage time to prevent that now.

Phew, gladly that’s over. Hoping for a better game USA-Ghana.

I quit at halftime. Now to cheer for the USA!

If the latest World Cup Google Doodle is anything to go by, both USA and Ghana are going to be giving the ball away constantly.

Nice goal!

Gooooooooooollllllll!!!

That was the worst defending I have ever seen. One defender didn’t even try to put a leg out to block it. He stopped at the six and made no effort to move towards the goal.
