Bread and wine can be a tasty treat, but bread dipped in wine isn’t. No matter what the Greeks say. Maybe the bread is supposed to be stale.

Bread dipped in balsamic vinegar (and olive oil) can be quite tasty, though.
There’s a cathedral near us (high church Lutheran, oddly enough) where I would go just for the Sunday morning snack. A nerdy family bakes a bunch of fresh baguettes, and they have the best screw-top Port I’ve had.
And it’s heavenly… because I’ve learned to chew the bread (I ask for a crusty piece), then take a slug out of the chalice. I foolishly dipped the bread once and… eeew.
All the way back to my pew, I was thinking “He did not choose… wisely.”
