Bread dipped in balsamic vinegar (and olive oil) can be quite tasty, though.
There’s a cathedral near us (high church Lutheran, oddly enough) where I would go just for the Sunday morning snack. A nerdy family bakes a bunch of fresh baguettes, and they have the best screw-top Port I’ve had.
And it’s heavenly… because I’ve learned to chew the bread (I ask for a crusty piece), then take a slug out of the chalice. I foolishly dipped the bread once and… eeew.
All the way back to my pew, I was thinking “He did not choose… wisely.”
