Dried cherries are better than raisins in almost everything, especially bread pudding.
No raisins but lots of custard. I use tart cherries in mine and my sister uses craisins.
Not a fan of wet, mushy bread or of custard. I’ll pass.
Oh my goodness yes! My favorite is a pumpkin bread pudding that’s actually low carb and sugar free but I’ll eat any of them. I’ve never had any with chocolate but I’d be more than willing to sample that too. I like mine to be less custardy and more bready.
Daggone it. Now I’m going to have to make some!
The Best Thing I Ever Ate was bread pudding with a brandy cream sauce at a party thrown by a billionaire ex-boss.
Pile it high, both sweet and savoury. Since it hasn’t been mentioned, I like mine with layers of cheese and bacon.
Can I have yours, then?
Use a little maple syrup and some crumbled bacon and you have a great brunch dish as well.
Yes, bread pudding with a nice sauce is probably the best dessert or sweet dish ever invented.
Chocolate bread pudding is a Christmas morning tradition at our house.
Yes please! We finished it at dinner today
I used to be “eww WTH, you’re making a dessert with stale bread??”, then my mate cooked me one.
This last one we had was chocolate + raisins, prunes and alcohol soaked cherries. (And milk/cornmeal/sugar).
I have never had it. I’d try it though, in the right situation.
Ok, now I know what to do with the bread heels. Thanks BG!
The best I’ve ever had was at the Department of Water and Power cafeteria in downtown LA.
And it was served cold… man I loved it.
Absolutely! Wiht plenty of butter please.
Unless some fool has snuck teh ebil raisins in there, in which case, yeck! No thanks!
Had some last week with my Grandma’s own recipe for lemon sauce! I didn’t get enough…
For Og’s sake, don’t make it with white sandwich bread. Mom did that once and it was nasty. BP really needs a good chewy bread base to be right.
I love Nigella Lawson’s version, made with ginger jam sandwiches. Except that I gain several pounds every time I make it.
I have to giggle every time I see a recipe for “baked french toast”. And that would be… um… bread pudding.
I’ve never tasted any that I enjoyed. I’ve probably tried it somewhere between a half dozen and a dozen times, including at some restaurants where I know they know what they’re doing and are putting out a good product.
I’m considered a very accomplished baker, and I’ve read recipes and I’m aware that it’s baked. I just don’t particularly like the texture or the taste, and I usually think that the remaining ingredients would be better served by mixing them with some flour and making something with a more homogenous texture. I’ve never tried kugel — it doesn’t show up on menus around here very much.
Hey, Suburban Plankton — since you asked first, you have dibs on my share.
