I love it, but rarely eat it because none I’ve found can match my mother’s. (Mama has passed on.) I’ve tried to make it, but I wasn’t happy with it. She’d also make a lemony sauce to pour on the pudding. And I did ask her once for the recipe and I got :“oh just a cup or so of this, and a bit of that, and a few teaspoons of that…” She didn’t have any of her recipes written down, so i guess she learned from her Mama (who was also a very good cook) and didn’t have to think much about it."

I prefer egg custard. But bread pudding is almost as good. I’ll take a bowl please.
I never even heard of bread pudding until I was an adult. It just wasn’t in my dessert repertoire. At all. I’ve tasted it a few times, even my DIL’s recipe which is regarded as legendary by many people. Still “meh” about it.
For those searching for the perfect lemon sauce, the easiest and best I’ve found is this:
Cheap, mild sour cream (store brand, not Breakstone’s) 1 cup
Lemon curd, two tablespoons (or to taste), gently warmed in microwave until just melted. (4 tblsp for me, but I like things really lemony. also depends upon the strength of the particular brand.)
mix and pour over bread pudding*.
*or anything else you can think of.
I’ll be in my bunk.
Stumbled on an episode of Good Eats today, AB was making bread pudding. (many variations)
