Break out the ol' 6-string... (more solo guitar recs)

We’ve done this before, but I think it’s been a while since the last one, so let’s do it again. Solo guitar pieces (with or without voice) of any genre are welcome, so long as you think they’re awesome (note, we will also accept radical, totally sweet, or REAL ultimate powerful). They can be already arranged for solo guitar or something you think might be interesting arranged for solo guitar.

The most recent piece that I just started working on is Red and White, by Leo Kottke. I love me some finger-pickin workout

Come on guys, no one wants to light the way to cool new songs I would never have thought of playing? Go ahead, force your music tastes upon us, I’m game

Modoc by Steve Morse is a nice purty piece. It is pretty mellow but has a couple rather hard reaches in it. The tab can be found on www.stevemorse.com. Flat Baroque and Point Counterpoint are quite nice as well.

Midnight Express is a pretty impressive piece that took me a while to master. It has a few complicated positional changes that make it a bit of a work out, and it just sounds damned awesome.

Wow that’s insane! It’s amazing how clear it sounds considering the frenetic pace. I’m pretty sure my technique is not up to snuff to play it, but it may be worth a try, if only to kill a few months’ time

It’s also in a very odd tuning, so you would certainly catch hell trying to play it in Open E.

A friend recently turned me on to John Fahey, and I’m working on “In Christ There Is No East and West”.

I’m also starting to delve more into Blind Willie Johnson. I’ve for a long time played “It’s Nobody’s Fault But Mine”, and listening to it again makes me realize how nuanced his bottleneck slide playing was.

If you can play Kottke you’re probably going to waltz this, but how about Richard Thompson’s superb song Vincent Black Lightning - tab. I have tried to master this dozens of times, but have finally conceded that it is beyond the limits of my abilities.
