Breakfast in Bed

Does anyone here eat breakfast in bed?

I don’t mean munching on a Clif bar while sitting on the side of the bed putting on your shoes. I mean sitting up IN bed, with a tray, and actual breakfast food like in English movies of the 30’s and 40’s, namely, eggs, bacon, O.J., coffee/tea, toast, and maybe even the newspaper and a teeny flower in a bud vase?

Okay… maybe not all that, but does anyone do some approximation of this or have you EVER done it (at home, not counting room service in a hotel).

Side question: In English movies, the maid comes in with the breakfast tray, the sleeping person wakes up, then sits up, and the maid puts the tray in their lap…* don’t they have to go to the bathroom first???* Doesn’t everyone do that first thing in the morning?

I sleep with two dogs, so my bed isn’t exactly a hair-free zone. Wouldn’t want to eat real food there, but sometimes I eat crackers in the middle of the night.

My 11YO, trying occasionally to ‘spoil’ me, will bring me breakfast in bed on a Sunday morning; now, I’ll grant you, what a kid that age considers ‘breakfast’ isn’t really typical; then again, what I normally consider ‘breakfast’ isn’t typical (usually, breakfast is leftovers from last night’s dinner).

When she is thoughtful enough to do this for me, I thank her profusely, and eat breakfast in bed. I don’t really like it, though. It’s not comfortable for me. I’d much rather eat sitting upright, thanks. Also, yes, my very first move in the morning is usually to the bathroom! Then a big glass of ice water. In fact, I typically don’t eat breakfast until I’ve been up for an hour or two.

Coffee…must have coffee.

I’ve never had breakfast in bed, but I did take her bacon, eggs and bread fried in bacon grease outside while she sat in a lawn chair in her robe watching the chipmunk. We were living in the woods at the time.

My kids did it a few times for Mother’s day and the like, and I gushed and smiled, but frankly, I need to pee first, brush my teeth, even shower before I’m ready for food. I’d rather eat at the table.

I have occasionally had dinner in bed. Now that was fab! I’ve had a few really bad days where I just needed to retreat, so my hubby ate with the kids, then brought me a plate to our room. That was perfect.

Hate it. Gotta pee, at least…

I can’t stand eating anything in bed. It reminds me of being in hospital too much.

I spend a lot of time in bed, though I have a hospital rolly bed table. Works great for eating, doing arts and crafts or setting my laptop on it and going online like i am doing right now.

Anything?

Joe

Choose one:

A: Well sure, but everyone has to take a dump now and then, and you never see that in an English movie either. Some things are simply not shown. :o

B: Actually, they did go first, then went back to sleep, five minutes before the maid brought the tray in. And they went in the bedpan that said maid will get to empty later. :frowning:

I have had breakfast in bed when ill, and a time or two as a treat. We do have a lap tray, and while even then it can be a bit awkward it’s still a lovely thing.

Most memorable, though was many years ago when my sister and I shared a house. I was still in the sack as she was getting ready to go to work, and somehow the notion of her bringing me breakfast in bed (bacon and eggs, now) came up. She agreed to do so; I figured “yeah, right .” Until my bedroom door was opened and a pack of bacon – full and unopened – hit me upside the head. I knew what was coming next, shot up in full adrenalin mode, and somehow managed to catch the egg without breaking it – by which time she had made it downstairs and out the front door. I heaved the egg out the window at her as she cleared the front walk, but alas it missed her.
