Breakfast in five minutes or less

I wake up at 8:00 and I’m out the door by 8:20ish. All my attempts to wake up earlier than 8 have failed. I don’t usually eat breakfast, but I’d like to start. I figure I can allot about five minutes of my morning to making and eating my food. Got any ideas for a quick breakfast?

I always have a Clif Bar for breakfast. It’s fast and easy and I can eat on my way to class.

Ah the eternal dilema–Do I want to eat or sleep?

In my case, sleep always wins out. I usually find myself driving to work, drinking my coffee and eating whatever I can eat while driving and drinking coffee. (relax guys, at least I’m not eating a bowel of cereal or biscuits and gravy while putting on eyeliner and mascara, flossing my teeth, and putting my contacts in at the same time–all these behaviors I have personally witnessed other drivers doing,by the way sometimes when I was in the car with them

I usually eat a bagel, english muffin, toast, or donut if I’ve can get one :), which is rarely :frowning: Along with some fruit this makes a pretty satisfying breakfast.

My suggestion is to buy a variety of baked goods and freeze them. Take one out to thaw the night before, heat it up as your pouring your beverage and you can get out the door lickity split.

Oh those fuit and cereal bars are pretty good too.

Umm…yuck.

I almost never eat breakfast (I’m just not awake enough in the morning to be hungry), but if I did, it’d probably be something like a banana. Fruit is always good, and bananas have potassium, too.

Of course, there’s always Pop Tarts (yum).

For the ultimate in a quick breakfast:[ul][li]Toasted poppy seed bagel[/li]
[li]Herb and garlic cream cheese[/li]
[li]Cold smoked salmon[/li]
[li]Chopped dill[/ul][/li]
I adore Thomas’ English muffins, but they simply scream for a poached egg and that takes more than five minutes. Good toast, thinly spread with roasted cashew butter is a bit of fun, but nothing compares to bagels with lox.

I set the alarm for 7:20 so I can snooze until 7:45 and catch the bus at 8:20. The only way I can maintain this schedule is by doing everything the same way in the same order every day - this way, once I’m good at the schedule I can remain half-asleep for most of it, through the shower, through dressing, the bowl of cereal, getting my things together, the bus ride and if I’m lucky the first hour and a half of work.

In fact, if for some reason I get up any earlier than normal, once I get done with everything, I’ll start reading or something and I’ll end up completely missing the bus.

I like Carnation Instant Breakfast, specifically the chocolate powder, mixed with milk.

Since I’m normally a GQ poster, here’s more info on it

Alternatively, coffee is good, since caffeine wakes you up and suppresses your appetite. You might try instant coffee, or a one-cup coffee maker, and a travel coffee mug.

Uhmm, Yuck is right. I guess I’ve either got my head up my ass or I’ve been thinking too much about my friend ;)with the boil on the bottocks. Or probably both.

Yep both sounds about right.

[hijack] Do tell. Or is there a thread somewhere about this?

I put yoghurt and granola into a plastic container. Eat at your desk while catching up on the SDMB.

Back before I became ubermommy and started making balanced breakfasts for TT, I used to just eat leftovers from dinner the night before. Heat it up while you’re doing the running around thing, scarf down and you’re full and happy til lunch.

Of course, back then dinner was pizza almost every night, so this might not work so well with foods that need utensils.

And I’ve found that something with protein, like a sandwich w/meat or cheese, sticks around much longer than plain carbohydrates like bagels or muffins. I get famished around 10 if I just eat plain carbs. YMMV, of course.

I come here in the mornings, and I never get around to eating. (I don’t like to eat, first thing outta bed. Gotsta have me coffee!) I usually mix up a Slim Fast before I head out the door for work. It’s loaded with vitamins and fiber, it’s quick, and it’s cheap. Carnation Instant Breakfast would be similar.

I’ve been known to microwave a Pop Tart. (No time to toast it.) You could always stop off at 7-11 for a hot dog.

I like toasted cheese. A slice of bread with a slice of cheese (Kraft American), broil until the cheese melts (about 3-4 minutes). Heat up the broiler while you’re getting ready, then throw it in while you pour coffee or milk or juice. Good to go! I wish I had done that this morning. I skipped breakfast.

The trick is to make something that allows you to get ready whilst it is being prepared. The perfect breakfast food for me is always toast. Put the raw toast in the toaster, pop it down, then go finish brushing my teeth or hair. Get dressed. Pop There’s my toast. Grab the butter or honey or jelly or peanutbutter and slather it on. Wrap it in a paper towel and eat it in the car while it’s warming up or as I’m driving. Other breakfasts I eat are fruit and the granola with yogurt - both have already been mentioned.

Oatmeal!

I get a box of quaker flavoured instant single serving packages from Costco (box of 50 for $5.99 I think). Dump into a bowl, spash on a little 2% milk & zap for 60 seconds. Presto! A quick hot breakfast that contains milk & is oats so it’s actually good for me!

This method requires planning and preparation, but I think it’s worth it. Make a weeks worth of scrambled eggs and your breakfast meat of choice, package them in breakfast sized servings (sandwich bags). Microwave them one sandwich bag at a time. One and a half minutes to heat, three minutes to eat. All you need to do then is decide what you’ll do with the thirty seconds you have left over.

There are these Milk 'n Cereal bars that are supposedly the same as a bowl of cereal with milk (made with real milk). You can get Chex, Honey Nut Cheerios, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They’re hard to find, but I got some at Price Club. They’re not bad, though I prefer the real bowl of cereal instead.

Hello? What century are you people living in?

What do you think god invented the Croissanwhich for?

As much as I’m loathe to admit it ::looking down at gut:: , the #1 breakfast meal at Burger King actually is my breakfast.

Lately I’ve been having bagels, always with cream cheese, sometimes with a few slices of turkey or ham. I agree with tater, the meat helps.

One of my other staples is Nestle Sweet Success shakes. They come in a can, o you can just leave 'em in the fridge and drink them on the way to work. They taste pretty good, too.

Boil an egg or two the night before, peel and place in the fridge in a sandwich bag. The next morning pop your bread in the toaster, get the egg out and when the toast pops up and is properly smeared with whatever substance you prefer you can eat and run.
