I prefer salty.
For an every day breakfast I don’t put salt on anything and don’t eat anything sweet.
For breakfast, I usually cook 2 or 3 eggs on a pan lubricated in butter and wash it down with some coffee. The eggs get a little butter on them but nothing else. No salt. Not even pepper.
For a diner type breakfast, I GUESS it would be salty because of the bacon and sausage, but I really am not a big fan of salt.
I do love me some pancakes but find that I never get around to making or ordering them.
Give me sausage and bacon and eggs with pancakes on the side in butter and syrup. That’s an ideal breakfast. I also eat way more honey butter chicken biscuits than are good for me. Mixing sweet and savory is one of the culinary joys in life.
Combo.
Savory mostly. Toast, a bagel, or hot multigrain cereal if I have a couple extra minutes. Sometimes might put some maple syrup in my coffee, and on a day off might make pancakes. But I’m more likely to make eggs and potatoes. Those IHOP dessert pancake concoctions make me nauseous just thinking about them.
Generally savory, but pancakes and syrup are often a side to my eggs and sausage.
What you don’t put ice cream on your pizza?
I like both.
Pancakes, an omelette and some sausage is my favorite breakfast.
Combination of the two, e.g. pancakes with maple syrup and sausage.
Where’s the option for spicy? Breakfast tacos (potato and egg) with jalepenos and extra-hot salsa verde is better than any other breakfast food I’ve ever tried.
This is no joke: a few years ago me and my brother went to a cottage in the countryside for the weekend with a huge box of ingredients, with the express intention of creating a savory ‘granola bar’, because both of us were sick of sweet breakfasts on the run.
However we got stuck at the agar-agar stage, and ended up with some really unpalatable mush. So we went to the pub instead.
Marmite has actually produced such a bar now. Unfortunately they’re slightly sweet and even though I love Marmite, I find them gross.
That’s in the salty category. I, too, like my breakfast (and every other meal) spicy
Salty and spicy… scrambled eggs with a little guacamole and and a turkey sausage is my favorite. I can’t do a sweet breakfast anymore. Things like donuts and danish taste heavenly with a strong cup of coffee but it makes me feel like utter crap an hour later.
I really only eat breakfast on the weekends, and it varies between scrambled eggs with cheddar and (plain, homemade) yogurt with raspberries and oatmeal. So a little of each.
In the egg thread, I had a flashback to being a kid again, and my mom fixing homemade waffles and we’d have fried eggs and bacon. I remember eating a bite of syrupy waffle dunked in the runny egg yolk and nearly swooned at the memory.
All of perfection in that one bite.

I voted for sweet, but for me breakfast is almost always plain Cheerios, 1% milk, orange juice, and a banana. So it’s on the sweet side, but just barely.
