What wouldn't you eat for breakfast?

When I was in Sri Lanka, curry was considered a normal breakfast item. I did eat it, but it just felt strange. My constitution isn’t really up to such strong tastes that early.

I just assume that breakfast consists mainly of bread products, fish and eggs - those sort of things.

What wouldnt you be prepared to tackle to break your fast?

I have had haggis for breakfast. Not much I wouldn’t eat for breakfast. Chilli may be out of the question.

I’m sorry to say, but the sort of breakfast I was treated to in the rural U.K. :
thick toast oozing oil or butter
“runny” sunny-side up eggs
and the icing on the cake; “bangers” (I think they were called), essentially fat sausages that spray your teeth with grease when you bite into 'em.

Other than a food I actively don’t like, there isn’t anything I won’t have or haven’t considered having for breakfast. I will admit that though I will eat cold cereal [think the advertised Special K style cereal milk and whatnot] I don’t prefer it unless i can not avoid it.

I do have certain preferences, like oatmeal or cream of wheat, the classic eggs and toast which i dont tend to do much now because I have issues eating pork products without hurking and I really miss the bacon or sausage :frowning:

Yesterday breakfast was leftover turkey enchiladas, and saturday was oatmeal. YMMV

Breakfast here is the famous “burning noodles”, so called because they are so soaked in oil you can set them on fire. And they are plenty spicy, as well.

Can’t do it. Noodles aren’t breakfast!

The mere thought of cereal for breakfast makes me nauseous. :frowning:

Gimme bangers or curry anytime. That’s the real breakfast of champions.

Ah, but that’s the point: warm and squidgy and oozing. Nothing to challenge the senses - except, perhaps, that of revulsion.

A bad breakfast is bad anywhere. I’ve had to face some real challenges first thing in the morning in the US. But I’d bet that in both your and my case, any food later in the day in those establishments would also be a disappointment.

I eat whatever I feel like eating, regardless of time of day. Why should I eat different foods in the morning?

I can’t eat meat for breakfast - it just feels wrong. It’s also utterly unheard of around here.

I like to break myself in gently: start low key and build up to an awe inspiring, full on, fucking crescendo come supper time. And then collapse in a burping, farting heap. Repairs follow through the night.

What, no bacon and eggs for brekkie in Israel???

What sort of Christians are you over there?

Rice. I have lived in Japan for 17 years and I still cannot stomach rice for breakfast. Specially not the way my husband and kids eat it with natto - fermented, sticky, slimy, stringy, smelly soy beans on top of the rice, with a raw egg and a slosh of soy sauce, then all whisked round and round together till its a disgusting foamy glop. Vomit. Do it or watch it, not sure…

I leave the room and sit with my ceral or toasted tortilla (can’t eat yeast so no bread - makes my eczema flare up like mad) so that I don’t have to see a vomit film run backwards.

Agreed.

There is one traditional breakfast food I absolutely can’t stomach, and that is any kind of sugared cereal. Apple Jacks, Cap’n Crunch, Lucky Charms … my tongue begins to shrivel and die just thinking about it.

Generally, I couldn’t consider anything normally regarded as dinner for breakfast. Other than that though anything goes, and throughout the rest of the day, I’ll have whatever’s on offer, including items traditionally considered breakfast. (I’ve often had breakfast for dinner.)

I couldn’t even consider squirty sausages though. I like my sausages fried or barbecued down to a nice, firm, wizened texture so that the majority of the fat has melted away. I’m not big on sausages though, mostly because of the fay; I hate fatty meat. (Some Italian meats like Genoa, Calabrese, and Mortadella are exceptions.) If there’s to be meat with my breakfast I would much prefer bacon, or failing that, ham.

This is actually a pretty interesting subject. Americans will eat food from all over the world, but breakfast is the one thing we pretty much always keep the same.

I don’t like to eat breakfast until I’ve been up for a few hours and have worked out, and then it’s almost always some form of whole grain cereal with fruit and nonfat milk. I like traditional breakfast foods but not that early in the morning. I’d rather eat them for lunch or dinner. Leftover cold pizza or chinese food are the exceptions. They’re perfect for breakfast.

I can’t eat eggs first thing in the morning, nor can I drink milk [even if it has chocolate in it]. I don’t know why but they’ve always made me feel sick to my stomach.

I feel the same. However, I don’t really want cereal; I’d prefer some real food. I’m hungry, dammit!

I had to train myself to eat breakfast long ago because I’d sometimes get migraines if I skipped it. Now I wake up ravenous.

I have the same problem. Full-on stomach pains if I do it.

I can’t stand these either.

Another traditional ‘breakfast’ thing around here is the sweet roll. Alternatively, one can have doughnuts, fruit turnovers, sweet muffins, etc. I cannot eat that stuff first thing in the morning!

Muffins are ok only if they’re mildly sweet (banana, pumpkin). Some blueberry muffins I can tolerate; some are made with too much sugar (streusel-topped ones are right out).
