Breaking Bad - The Midseason Handicapping on the Demise of Mr. Walter White

IMPORTANT!!!
We are not accepting bets just yet…this thread will be for the setting of odds and rules for the two games listed below that are still in the development stage.

I think it would be fun and a great way to pass the time between half seasons if we started a thread to handicap the demise of Walt (and by whose hand…if at all), as well as the outcome of each major character on whether or not they survive the final half season:

May I propose two games that we can fanwank over during the 10 month long hiatus that we have just entered:
THE DEATH POOL:
Who Dies and Who Survives?
(D=Dies, S=Survives and the number after the name is the number of Blue Sky Tokens (BST) each correct answer is worth):
1st Tiebreaker: The person with the longest unbroken winning streak starting with Walt at the top, and then down the list is declared the winner.
2nd Tiebreaker: The person with the most correct answers wins.

Walt (1000)
Jessie (750)
Hank (750)
Lydia (750)
Declan (750)
Gomez (500)
Todd (500)
Saul (500)
Skyler (500)
Marie (500)
Junior (500)
Holly (500)
Skinny Pete (250)
Badger (250)
Beneke (250)
Huell (250)
Kuby (250)
Old Joe (250)
Andrea (250)
Brock (250)

Point values and add/subtracting of characters from the list are open to discussion. Also, some of these guys we may never see again next season, so we can assume that they live or we can remove them…I was just shooting for an even 10,000 BST total.

On to the next game:

**
WHODUNNIT!**
If Walt dies…who or what is responsible for his death?
The Big C
Himself (suicide OR accident)
Jessie
Todd
Hank
Declan
Lydia
Skyler
Gomez
The Rest of the DEA
Another Cartel (Chilean, perhaps?) yet to be seen
Madrigal exec/employee other than Lydia
Junior
Marie
Saul
The Ricin
Skinny Pete
Badger
Beneke
Andrea
Brock
Kaylee
Holly (by some crazy happenstance)
A new character from the final 8 episodes
“The Karma of the Dead” (Mike, Gus, Gale, Jane, Tuco, Hector, The Cousins, The Aztek, Wayfarer 515, M-60, etc. through some device/instrument left behind by them that serves Walt up some crazy Karma in a deadly way)

…or…
Heisenberg Lives!
This by no means is a final list; throw in others if I missed them…perhaps Jane’s Dad, Bogdan and Ken the Lawyer get together for some street justice at the local Denny’s.

Let’s develop some sort of probability table and bet 1000 BST for the Whodunnit table. (Maybe some rules should be in order for clarification…I am doing this off the cuff here)…suggestions are appreciated on how to handle the setting of odds and how to distribute bets or value to each bet, or maybe a different game would be a better solution…this is the time to propose that! So, let’s set up the system first and then we can place bets AFTER we set up a good odds table for the Whodunnit portion…maybe start placing bets one or two months before the 509 episode airs next year.

Should we sum up the total BST from both games to declare a winner, or have separate winners from each game?

ETA: Should we have a guessing game of the amount of money in the storage locker from 508? Closest one without going over (IF it is somehow announced during any of the remaining episodes) wins 5000 BST, 2nd closest, 2500 BST, and 3rd gets 1000 BST.

The Junior over-under eating breakfast game?
Bodies in Barrels over-under game?

Ok…now you know what kind of game I am shooting for here…

Let the Fanwanking begin!

You’ve left out Jack (Todd’s Uncle, leader of the aryan gang) and Kenny (his lieutenant).
http://breakingbad.wikia.com/wiki/Jack

I think they’ll be back and the M-60 in the S5E1 opening is for them.

Nice list. But in your list of who or What would kill Walt, I don’t get the ricin. Either Walt himself (by accident or suicide) or another character would kill him using the ricin. It wouldn’t decide to kill him all by itself.

Long time till new episodes. How can this be considered a mid-season break when the next 8 episodes aren’t until Summer 2013? That’s a year apart from the start of the first 8. I watched the first 4 seasons on DVD in big greedy batches leading up to the start of season 5-- I’m not used to waiting! :frowning:

What happens if he some how gets through it and lives longer ?

If I was in the writer’s room, I’d be pushing for Junior to have a more, ummmm, “active” role in the resolution of this series.

Because I’ll forget later, I’ll just make picks right now: Lydia and (let’s say) Gomez die, everyone else lives. I’m guessing we end with Heisenberg (there is no more Walt) holed up in Mexico or Cambodia or some such, starting business anew.

Of course, now that I’ve said that I’m sure the next episode will open with a flash-forward to Walt’s bullet-ridden body crawling across the ground, but whatever.

YESXA MILLION!

If they have kept Junior around since the start of the series just to be a victim and hurt Walt I will be very, very dissapointed. I would love for Junior to have a role in the endgame that is believeably badass, perhaps even saving Walt at an opportune moment.

Walt’s transformation complete, having lost everything he ever cared about and started down this road to “save” including money and his family(whether dead or in witness protection or otherwise out of his reach). He doesn’t even need to be synthing meth, there are plenty of jobs for chemists in the black market of drugs.

I could totally see that.

You are right…I will add these two on the list for the second game definitely, but do you (or anyone else) think they should also be on the first list/game? I was thinking of bumping Walt’s value up to 1250, and Jessie to 1000 to make the total list worth 10,000 BSTs instead of adding those 2 to that first list. Also thinking of bumping Skyler’s name up the list (between Declan and Gomez, but keep the same value) as well. The order of the list would be important too since it will be considered for the 1st tiebreaker. Walt, Jessie and Hank are definite locks in this order, but you guys can debate the values and order of the first list in matters of importance to the final 8 episodes. I guess I might bump Todd up a few notches too.

You are right…I put the Ricin on the list first, then went back and added “Himself” (Walt) later, and then after that change, I added the “Suicide OR Accident” last, which really did make the Ricin irrelevant. It will be removed from the list.

Then my last option, “Heisenberg Lives!” is the where the BSTs get paid out…BUT he actually has to be alive (on his last scene) to the very end of 516.

This also brings up a very good point…although I hope it doesn’t come into play…
What if Walt in the last scene is very alive and well and walks back into his house which is shortly blown up by a bomb, catches fire…and THEN the end credits roll! Should I have the “Indeterminate” option available for scenarios like this one? Would we end up squabbling over how that should be paid out? Remember how Gilligan messed with us for a few seconds when Gus walked out of Tio’s room, giving us the “HOLY SHIT! HOW THE FUCK DID HE LIVE THROUGH THAT?!?” moment. What if Vince pulls that again, but rolls the credits just as Walt walks out the front door but before he collapses (ala Fring)? Indeterminate?

Because I will forget later too, I will not accept your picks now. I will probably start a new thread with the polished version of the game(s) and take bets there when we get closer to the 509 episode. We are just on the input and set up mode here.

Maybe you could make this more like a game of Clue…“Jesse, with the ricin, in the exterminator tent!” or “Skyler, with a gun, in the carwash!”

I’m kind of in the camp with those who think he’ll be alive at the end. Maybe because it seems so obvious for him to be killed off, with all the competitors, cartels, skinhead uncle, angry estranged wife, cancer, bamboozled ex-partner, psychotic current apprentice, karma-seeking ghosts, deadly poisons lying around, etc.
