For about the last two hours, major news organizations are reporting that Iran has launched perhaps 100 drones against Israel, possibly to be followed by cruise missiles. The cable networks (including where I live,m BBC News) are on full alert, with live feeds from Tel Aviv, and scores of retired military officers, diplomats and scholars ready to comment.
It’s a strange period because at this moment Israel has not yet been struck by anything yet. But when something happens over the next few hours, this thread is here for the breaking news.
The people on the new say that based on flight times, any drones and missile that may get through the defenses are expected to hit in about an hour. It’s 12:50 AM right now and I plan to stay up a bit. I’ll keep you guys posted from the Tel Aviv area.
The U.S military is now saying that Iran has launched 400-500 drones and missiles. Interesting times.
Joe Biden warned Iran against attacking Israel; his exact words were, I believe, “Don’t.” There’s no deniability here - Iran has announced that it is launching the attacks from its own soil. I think that a US response of some sort is pretty much guaranteed.
Not that I understand why, but attacking Country A directly from the territory of Country B is a bigger deal than using a proxy. So this is a big deal.
Reports from sources I do not really trust say that US aircraft will help intercept the drones.
In any case, this darn fool war is widening, just like Hamas wanted it to.

Iran’s mission to the UN says the ‘attack’ will stop for now. It’s being suggested that Iran targeted less populous areas of Israel in order to both show strength and retaliate for the attack in Damascus.
