Good work on their part.
It occurs to me that it’s lucky for everyone besides the shooter that the police were able to check on potential victims before it was widely known that the shooter was gaining access by pretending to be police.
If they had heard from the news or heard from the police, the proper response would be the same: Hole up inside the house and don’t let anyone in.
The state rep’s dog had to be put down.
Dog was very cute. The children probably wanted the family pet.
It seems he bought the addresses of these people:
The man who allegedly assassinated a Democratic Minnesota state representative, murdered her husband, and shot a state senator and his wife at their homes in a violent spree early Saturday morning may have gotten their addresses or other personal details from online data broker services, according to court documents.
Sounds like a “front” business, doesn’t it?
Now is the Blue Man’s revenge on the Children of the Corn.
I think that he just liked to seem like a tough guy and made up a bunch of bullshit with the hope of snagging a sucker client.
The wsj reports he sent his roommate a text that “i might be dead soon”. The roommate called the police, fearing he was going to engage in self-harm, but was shocked by what he actually did. The roommate said the guy voted for Trump and objected to abortion, but he thought Boelter had basically mainstream political views.

As either above in this thread or elsewhere, the status may have gotten him permission to buy arms and equipment that would be off=limits to the hoi polloi.
He lived with his wife in a rural area, but also commuted closer to Minneapolis, and spent a couple nights a week in a rental with roommates.
This is the first case that ever led me to google “what is the most gunshots one person has survived?” I had heard that Hoffman and his wife were shot multiple times but apparently he was shot nine times and she was shot eight times. I am absolutely dumbfounded that they survived. I hope that they have no severe residual problems. I’m so glad they caught him.
He also shot their dog who had to be euthanized.
Maybe the Hoffman’s Hortman’s shooting was politically motivated but shooting the dog just seems more mean on some level.
ETA: Thanks for the correction @psychobunny
It was the other family’s dog. Still not good. I was reading a report that said he went to two other legislators’ houses between the two shootings. One was not home and the police were at the second one. However it also says that at the last house the police stopped him going in and not coming out as reported and he turned and fired through the door which makes no sense if he then escaped through the house. The husband was found by the door but the representative was not right there. (According to initial police reports after the suspect fled through the house they found the husband by the front door and brought him out but then sent in a drone to search the rest of the house.)
State Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette have released a statement to the public five days after being shot in their home by a man who would allegedly go on to kill a Minnesota lawmaker. Yvette, who was shot eight times, was released from the hospital Thursday. John, who was shot nine times, is in critical but stable condition, a hospital spokesperson told KARE 11.
In the statement, the Hoffmans describe what happened to them the evening of June 14, saying the night before they and their daughter Hope attended the Humphrey-Mondale dinner. It’s an event many Minnesota Democrats, including Rep. Melissa Hortman, attended. At about 2 a.m., the family woke up to someone pounding on the door and identifying himself as a police officer, the Hoffmans said. John lunged at the gunman when he pointed a gun and was shot multiple times. Yvette was able to close the door and was shot as well. Hope secured the lock and called 911.
Bumping the thread……
I know there was a lot of speculation as to the shooter’s motives.
Last month, Boelter was interviewed by The Blaze, Glenn Beck’s ( anyone remember him? ) media outlet.
If you don’t want to click the link, here’s a quick summary.
Boelter wants everyone to know he never intended to murder anyone. He was simply there to conduct a citizen’s arrest, which is a totally normal thing to do. But his plans were thwarted by the presence of a third person. He tried to pretend he was robbing them in the hopes that the wife and daughter would leave to get their jewelry and he could zip tie and kidnap the husband, but that didn’t work so he had to shoot them dead.
Why was he arresting them, you ask? It was because of their role in promoting the Covid vaccines. See, Boelter had been doing his own investigation ( which included working in a funeral home) and was convinced these politicians had covered up the vaccine related deaths of hundreds of Minnesota citizens and had to answer for their crimes.
The firehose of rampant health care misinformation strikes again.
Reminds me of a Dallas-area *elementary school classmate of mine who put on a routine one day over lunch, pretending to be Lee Harvey Oswald offering up an explanation for how the Kennedy assassination was all just a terrible misunderstanding. As he told it, he didn’t mean to kill the President. He was duck hunting, you see? He was just up there in that building with his rifle, looking through the scope, not meaning to harm anyone, and then he saw what he thought was this big, ugly duck. So of course he opened fire! Nothing else to it.
Had us all in stitches.
This? Not so much. But about as plausible.
*I attended elementary school in the 90s, so it wasn’t “too soon.”
Hard to tell if he’s really nutty enough to believe this, or if he and his legal team are trying to set up a denial that there was any mens rea to commit murder. Hey, 25 to life with possibility of parole beats consecutive life sentences.
