Breaking News: Mubarak Steps Down!

The Real Ex-Dictators of the Middle East, co-starring Ben Ali of Tunisia (and probably more to come).

And Michaele Salahi, complete with credulous claims.

“to find out what happens… when people stop being dictators… and start getting real”

It’s amazing to think that all this was started by a Tunisian stall-holder.

Damn! A peaceful revolution! John Lennon would be so proud!

Although I just read that Switzerland has frozen all of Mubarak’s assets, supposedly over $10 billion!
I am sure he has some cash tucked away elsewhere, but still - very cool of Switzerland to step up and block that chunk of change.

Congrats to Egypt!

BTW, did I hear that one new face in potential leadership is a guy from Egypt who works as an executive for Google?

Wael Ghonim. He came into Egypt from the UAE where he was based to join in the demo’s, got arrested some time in late January I believe, and was released a couple days ago.

Here you go:

edit: Double ninja’ed by Tom Scud and Wikipedia.

Good luck Egypt - you’re going to need it.

I’m glad another ME dictator is out of a job.
I’m even more glad that the US military wasn’t called in to hand him his pink slip.
I’m even MORE glad that Barack Obama chatted up the Egyptians in Cairo a coupla years ago.
I’m even MORE more glad that he did it while demonstrating that at least someone of authority in the US is not completely ignernt of ME culture.

Cuz it seems to me The US is on shaky ground with Egypt, what with Hosni being our boy and all.

But whatever. Good on 'em for booting the meanie.

We’re still going to have to work double-time diplomatically to make up some of our lost ground with whoever ends up in charge of Egypt one this has settled. Didn’t the VP talk up Mubarak a day or so ago? We didn’t use our military, and we didn’t use force at all it seems, but we were still seen very close to the wrong horse before the outcome of the race had been decided.

I’m even more interested to see how Israel is going to handle all this.

YAY!!!

I just want you to know, we’re all counting on you.

I’m doing everything I can…

I was out at the embassy today…it was a good time- lots of flags and dancing. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many happy people in one place before.

Congrats, Egypt!
