A tough lady in a sh*tty, thankless job. RIP. While I don’t agree with the glee I’ve seen online about her death, I can’t fully condemn it either.
Looking at the retrospectives, she is certainly the first highly prominent human whose entire life from birth to death was recorded by audio visual medium.
Looking at her first public appearance as a newborn babe and her last, as an old lady of 96, 2 days before her death, the illustration of a human lifetime has never felt so stark.
King Charles to address the nation at 6pm local time. (I think that’s 1pm ET)
That woman was eminently worthy of the title, “Queen”! She was one of a handful of women on this planet to whom I would curtsy out of respect. What a lady!
Replacing her as monarch is like replacing Michael Jordan at guard, and Charles is pathetic in comparison.

I’ve always enjoyed Queen Elizabeth’s gentle humor and I’m sure her subjects did, too. Connecting with a stuffy, humorless King or Queen would be difficult.
Despite Queen Victoria’s alleged (but never verified) utterance, “we are not amused” when someone told a lewd joke at a state function, giving people the false impression she was devoid of humor, she actually (by a number of accounts) had a keen, sometimes naughty funny bone. If she did say the infamous line, I’d like to believe it was delivered in this manner after hearing the off-color joke: “we are not amused!” [wink, wink]…“now tell another one, or it’s off with your head!”
If Queen Elizabeth had a vulgar sense of humor and was prone to pull pranks like farting in the palace elevator, then pointing to another nation’s head of state, well that would be vastly inappropriate…though funny as hell.
The Queen’s gentle humor will be missed by many.
Honestly, speaking as a Brit, I have absolutely no idea about her sense of humour, gentle or otherwise. We didn’t talk much.
Not besties like she and I, eh?
Maybe it was something I said.
she had covid in feb., with her loss of mobility, throw a clot does seem most likely, given how quickly things happened.
So, a template, then.
It looks very clear to me. Only I would have put labels on the mugshots.
There’s a crucial difference, a template won’t cost you £300 a pop.
Not entirely thankless, I think. And that’s not even to mention the fact that it made her immensely wealthy.
i saw it live, when he said “i will miss her so”… ach, it got a bit dusty in my office.
Oh, no doubt. I’ve read records of Diana’s time as princess and it seemed like a gilded cage, but I suppose if you’re brought up in it you might not notice. Not a healthy environment for anyone and I’m glad Harry and Meghan got out while they could.
Though Harry and Meghan aren’t exactly living a middle-class lifestyle.
Only one? He’s got a long way to go to catch up to Chuck 2.0.
