I find the quietness of the lying in state soothing somehow.
Just saw a woman explain the visual of the coffin and guards to some who is visually impaired. As she whispered she kept making hand gestures the woman couldn’t track.
Also interesting how you can spot the denominations of Christian by the way they cross/blessed themselves. Earlier there were 2 boys who sweetly paused a bit said prayers.
I was wondering why those two women were lingering but eventually figured out that one must be blind. I’ve noticed the ushers go up to others who seem to linger too long and was wondering why they were not being prompted to move on.
And how do the various types of Christians cross themselves?
As far as I’m aware, Protestants don’t.
I heard from someone in another forum who was there on what was Friday for her, that people were vacuuming when she came in. So yeah, that must be it. I’m not watching the feed itself, just cutaways on BBCWorld, and I have seen those ceiling shots. Funny, though: I honestly thought we were supposed to ooh and aah over that beautifully crafted ceiling!
So can I assume that everyone crossing themselves is Catholic?
So can I assume that everyone crossing themselves is Catholic?
Or Orthodox.
I think some of the crossers are Anglican/Church of England. Many Episcopalians at the church where I sing cross themselves.
Also, Western crossers do forehead, chest, left shoulder, right shoulder. Eastern (Russian Orthodox, Byzantine) crossers do forehead, chest, right shoulder, left shoulder).
OK the funeral will be on all the networks. Who’s going to have the coverage with the least yapping of commentators? Should I go with BBC America, BBC World News, PBS, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, or MSNBC?
I don’t get any of those, so I’d like a suggestion (too) for someone who only has access to streaming. I’m guessing YouTube/BBC or ITV where I’ve been watching the lying in state.
I wouldn’t mind a little commentary…

BBC World News will, I imagine, be carrying the feed from the main (UK) BBC News channel, as they were doing exactly that for the first few days after the Queen’s passing. So, I’d suggest that channel, or ITV (which, based on those here who are commenting on their coverage of recent proceedings, are also likely to be reserved and respectful).
BBC America doesn’t usually run live news, but I’d guess that they, too, will be carrying BBC News’s feed. Of the US networks, I would suspect that PBS’s would be the quietest, too (and, they, too, might well be running the BBC feed).
Catholic and Protestant do full hand left to right, Catholics will some times bring hand to mouth after, Protestants don’t and only once.
Orthodox will use two or three fingers, right to left, and do it three times.
Interesting how many do a kind of namaste bow.
Just noticed the plumes today. I looked it up. Blue plume is Irish, coldstream have red, grenadier have white, welsh have white-green-white, Scottish no plume.
I have been wondering if there has been a noticeable increase in sales of Paddington Bears and marmalade.
I was just wondering that!! (You must be psychic, Or maybe psycho… )

I would absolutely go with one of the British stations or YouTube streams. I recorded ABC’s Good Morning America coverage of the Queen’s Jubilee and the blabberation made it unwatchable. American television hosts seem incapable of zipping it, regardless of what they are covering.
I watched BBC’s coverage of the funeral service at St. Giles and it had the perfect balance of explaining what was going on and staying quiet. During the service itself, they would put up a brief banner with the name of the person speaking or singing and the text read/hymn being sung and that was it.
Looks like a house keeping break happening. They are emptying the hall.
Any idea on how many have gone through?
I have been wondering if there has been a noticeable increase in sales of Paddington Bears and marmalade.
I read this article earlier today.
Mr Jackson said the shop had been inundated with Paddington requests since Friday, and will soon sell out.
"Before the Platinum Jubilee, I was selling one or two a fortnight, after, I’d sell two or three. Yesterday alone I sold ten.
Not much help…
No one knows how many people have made the trek so far, but officials have estimated that at least 700,000 people will get through Westminster Hall by the time the lying-in-state ends Monday morning, just before the Queen’s funeral.
