Breaking - The Queen is unwell (has died): 8 Sep 2022

Can confirm I’ve seen that in at least one case of my own family.

Prince Philip’s death certificate also said ‘old age’.

Over 1,000 Paddington and teddy bears will be donated to a childrens’ charity. That’s nice to see. https://www.royal.uk/over-1000-paddington-and-teddy-bears-be-donated-barnardos

Yes, indeed.

Seriously.

Hey, he did ask Og to forgive him for saying it. If that isn’t genuine repentance, what more could he possibly do?

I mean, other than not saying/typing it…

IIRC, she/her.

The Queen dropped off Paddington bears at a children’s center and had a teddy bear tea and story time with the children and Hugh Bonneville of the Paddington movies. Queen Camilla Visits Children's Tea Party to Donate Paddingtons and Teddy Bears

Am I the only one who when seeing a reference to “the queen” thinks only of Elizabeth II?

It’ll take some getting used to.

You are not the only one.
I expect I will keep on thinking that for years.

Apparently Queen Elizabeth had bone cancer.

Nope, that was the first thing I thought of.

Hence the adoption of “Queen Consort”, use of which may already be fading away.

That reminds me of something. At the time of the funeral, a Scottish actor received backlash for tweeting the suggestion that the coffin at the lying in state was empty, presumably while her actual body was lying in a climate-controlled morgue someplace. Anyone know if that was true?

Idle speculation with exactly zero evidence.

With the entire resources of the UK government behind her funerary arrangements, having the lying-in-state coffin be climate controlled refrigerated seems like a pretty straightforward accommodation. It’s not like there isn’t a standing protocol department somewhere which handles state funerals, has a playbook for this stuff, maintains equipment, lists of vendors, etc.

Why would anyone do that?

Just what i was about to ask. What’s the goal? To prevent her body from decaying for another couple of days?

The whole coffin was said to be lined with lead to prevent anyone from seeing any sign of that decay. And the body was probably pumped full of chemicals to slow decay, anyway.

You refrigerate bodies if you need to do an autopsy, or plan to take tissue for study or transplanting, or if you don’t want it to rot before it gets embalmed or cremated. But once it’s been embalmed and tucked into a coffin, why refrigerate it any longer?

Disclaimer, I don’t think that the coffin was empty. But, one theoretical goal would be to prevent the theft of the body. Look at what happened to Lincoln’s corpse.
