I’m not sure if you can Pit an already Pitted thread but for all of you whiney assed morons in the breast feeding at BK and ‘homophobic reactions’ threads - word up - the world does not revolve around you and your inalienable rights.

Fine you have the legal right to breast-feed wherever the hell you like. Doesn’t mean you should. Live with it sunshine, you are not the centre of the universe. So what if its legal - it doesn’t mean its right.

So much intelligence on this board but sometimes so little common sense. The crux of the majority of arguments is ‘its legal so therefore I can’ or ‘tell me why its disgusting’.

To the its legal camp therefore I/She can - nice selfless attitude. Its perfectly legal for me not to wash for a month and never clean my teeth. Its not disgusting - it’s perfectly natural. But it does make others uncomfortable. Why? Because it does. A much more eloquent post, to which I cannot link, as I am offline typing this up, gave a fuller, more rational answer with a very acceptable (IMO) explanation. To you self-centred mother earth types with your 15mth old kids still swinging off your tits I have a scoop - if baby is hungry - baby can wait 5 minutes while you finish your meal and leave. What the heck was this woman doing - squatting in BK? She’s going to be there 10mins max! Baby can wait - it won’t die if its not fed on demand.

IF anything breast feeding the kid on demand because ‘little Johnny is simply the most important thing in the whole wide world, yes he is’ is going to lead to you raising someone as equally precocious as you. Which is not nice for society. It just means more outraged idiots breast feeding their spoilt brats at 4 years old, in BK - because they can, bitching about how unfair it is that they got fined for doing just a little over the limit on the way to little Johnny’s school play. The irony of using the law to protect their rights and bitching when its unfair on them would be SO lost on them !

Look. I’ll type real slow for those of you who are a little over excited about this. Society is a wonderful mix of all types. Blacks, whites, gays, straights, boys, girls, tall people, small people, thin people, fat people, smart people and those like you.

I must admit to just about having had it with you minority groups who scream so loudly about ‘your rights’ and ‘your needs’ without considering society’s needs and rights.

Maybe you should just try working with society for a while instead of complaining each time something is a perceived slight on you.

What I love is the quotes like ‘I don’t remember ever seeing any studies indicating homosexuality is an inherited trait’. Do you not see the irony in that?

I’m just as much for defending the rights of disabled lesbian black dwarves but I don’t need it rammed down my fucking throat all the time by ignorant pricks who believe that if they can get all of society to think the same way, their life would somehow be easier. Conveniently ignoring the mild problem of suppressing our right to think what the hell we want. If someone can be grown up enough to think that homosexuality is unnatural, wrong, perverted, genetic mistake, sinful, immoral or any of those other trigger words that send the gay rights militants into a foaming frenzy, and yet still have the ability to treat them just the same as anyone else - where’s the crime?

Well I’ll make you all a deal as I step down of my soapbox. The minute you think it’s ok for someone to believe ‘Homosexuality is an unnatural sin and could probably be cured by some sort of re-orientation program’ - then you can start working on others mindsets. Because until you realise that the world is a big bad scary place and not everyone is going to agree with you, your lifestyle, your choice of clothes, your partner or your right to breastfeed in Burger King its going to be a rough ride for you. But if you can learn to be big enough to accept that others may have a different opinion - then we can work at moving forward together.

Society works by people being different - living and let living. I have had a lot of things personally happen to me that aren’t fair, not right. But shit happens. The minorities are what make our society so wonderful - it’s the variety. It’s just the militant lesbian breast-feeders that fuck it up for everyone by insisting they get their dues now.

Why would you say “grow up” and then post the most immature rant against breastfeeding? You call a mother feeding a baby out of her own breasts selfish? Because she’s not considering immature nuts who find the dumbest things disgusting? She’s feeding a child! FEEDING a CHILD! From HER OWN BREASTS! We should all be pausing our lunches and gathering around, marvelling at such a miraculous and tender exchange. The only thing we should have to say about it is “aaawwww!” Anyone who has anything else to say needs to grow up, because this perfectly natural, tender, and benevolent act is not going anywhere!

I feel uncomfortable around men who open their mouths in public. Don’t ask me why. I just do. So the next time you are in BK and want to eat, just take it home with you so that you can bite off big disgusting chucks of dead cow without my having to watch you. Try to think of someone besides yourself for a change.

Which would you rather have: ten minutes of a hungry, screaming baby while Mom wolfs down her damn burger, or a potential quick flash of a boob and then a QUIET HAPPY EATING baby while Mom eats her burger? If I had a baby, there’s no way in hell I’d feed them in a fetid fast-food place bathroom any more than I’d eat there myself. There is NOTHING wrong with giving us equal rights in society - I think our militant extremists do us more harm than good.

I’m afraid at this point of checking into the board I can’t quite answer everyting at once but I wanted to assure you that whilst I may be wrong, and willing to listen, I’m no leetspeak <banned word for under-bridge inhabitants> and to thank Zoe - for making my point for me…

And why is it not the height of assholery to deny a child the right to eat when it needs to eat because of the means of delivery of his food?

Tell me, what rights are gay people denied? I mean, think about it. Hell, lets go down the Bill of Rights (the only ‘rights’ that anyone truly has in the USA.)

1: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

To the best of my knowledge, gay people can worship as they see fit (look at the Anglican ‘scandal’ of late,) speak (barring that doing so does not abridge someone elses right,) produce literature and press, assemble, and petition the government. Gay marches (which are incredibly odd, as I’ve stated before) aren’t broken up with dogs and fire hoses.

2:A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Without getting into anything about the actual ‘right to bear arms,’ no gay person I know has ever been turned down from buying a firearm simply for being gay.

3: No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

I’ve never been barracked in a gay persons house. Hell, with the way the DoD is, if you were openly gay, it’d be more likely that your house would be passed over if the need for bivouacs in civilian areas arose.

4: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Aah! Unlawful search and seizure. Didn’t Lawrence v. Texas just answer this question about gays and that? Guess what…your rights are protected bub.

I’ve never seen anyone forced to take the stand, or put in double jeopardy, or deprived of due proscess simply because they’re gay. A terrorist, yes. In the Armed Forces, yes But not because they’re gay. Have you? If so, please pass a cite (I’m not being snippy with this. I’d like to see it.)

6: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

Again, I’ve never seen this right denied simply on the grounds that you (not you literally, the ‘homosexual’ in question) are gay. Again, if you have contradictory evidence, please share it.

7: In suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise reexamined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

Has a lawsuit been dismissed out of hand because you were gay? If so, please cite.

8: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

EEEgad! Now, in the past, yes, homosexuals may have been on the receiving end of excessive punishments for the perceived crime of homosexuality. But today, now, (or hell, in the last twenty years) has there ever been a crime in which the accused was forced to undergo a more excessive punishment because of their gayness?

9: The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

Not only that, but the other true rights (as further enumerated within the constitution) allow for any and all rights to be bestowed equally across all gender, race, and sexual lines. Point out to me ONE that is not.

10: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Eh…doesn’t apply.

Wow, it amazes me how many people who were born and raised here in the USA don’t understand our society at all. I’m talking about the people telling those against public breast feeding to “Just get over it”.

In our society, a lot of people were raised to feel that purposely causes public nudity, even if it’s brief and non sexual, is improper. Or, they raised to feel uncomfortable about it.
Actually, the word I should use is Ingrained. These people have these feelings of improperness or uncomfortableness ingrained into them, and changing their feelings on the subject will be very difficult for them, if they change their minds at all. And telling them to just get over it because it’s just a breast, is as easy as telling an arresting officer of a flasher to just get over it because, after all, it’s just a penis.

Also, there are a lot of guys who are uncomfortable in situations like this because, even though we’re hardwired to notice breasts, there have been plenty that have grown up feeling dirty if they do. Even if they notice something, look see that it’s a woman is breast-feeding her baby, and then quickly look away again, they have a feeling of embarrassment. And some hope that nobody noticed them noticing, because then there’s the fear that others around might be judging them as pigs or perverts. As silly and ridiculous as this seems, there are guys with this fear. Also, there are plenty of people, usually women, who give guys a hard time for noticing anything of a sexual nature (and for most guys, breasts themselves constitute a sexual nature, even if they’re not being used in a sexual way) which doesn’t help alleviate their fears any.

Now, our society is changing, and more and more people find public breast-feeding acceptable. Yes, the notion that this is indecent is slowly going away, but there are, at the moment, plenty of people who genuinely believe this to be the case, and to tell them to laugh at them, call them uptight, and tell them to get over it, seems a bit inconsiderate in my opinion. Yes, it’s fine to try and change society if you see something you think is wrong with it, but to me, just calling someone a prude and telling them to get over it, instead of giving logical arguments isn’t the way to do it.

And finally, as for the woman at BK, did any of you ever try to see it from Burger King’s staff and management side of things? Here’s one woman doing something that was making some of the other customers uncomfortable. Now, since management want’s to make the most amount of people as happy as possible to maintain good business relations with their customers, if a manager starts getting complaints, then they will try to remedy the situation the best way possible. In this case, it was a reasonable request that the woman feed elsewhere. And seriously, how fragile can she be that this causes her great emanational distress? Yeah, “Uhm mam, could please do that in the bathroom? Some of the other customers are feeling uncomfortable” is a real cruel and hurtful thing to say. (OK, so I don’t know exactly how the manager phrased this, but I would imagine that it was probably somewhere along those lines.)
And do you think that it’s good business to tell a complaining customer “Yeah, she’s breast feeding, so? Get over it!”? Usually, if someone is doing something that makes other customers feel uncomfortable, regardless of whether it’s legal or not, a manager or supervisor, or whoever’s in charge, will usually try to resolve the situation by either asking the person to please stop, or to do it elsewhere. It’s just a simple matter of trying to make your customers happy.
And I hate it when people try to argue their point by throwing in extreme examples, like, “Well what if an interracial couple came in and a racist complained to the management?”. That would be like me saying, well, as long as we allow immigrants to come into our country, either legally or illegally, we allow the chance that terrorists might sneak by and attack us again, therefore we should close our borders to foreigners completely.

Anyway, that’s it. And even If I’m around a breast feeding mother, though I’ll feel a tad uncomfortable, I’ll never tell her to stop or take it somewhere else, but I can understand where those who would, are coming from.

Well, I said my piece and tried to explain the point of view of the anti public breast-feeders, so let the onslaught of name calling and pitting begin. Go ahead, call a unenlightened prude who needs to get my head out of my ass and grow up. I’m a big boy, I can take it.

The fact that there are rights that belong to the people beyond those enumerated in the Bill of Rights is established in Article IX.

Meanwhile, my boyfriend and I are prohibited from taking part in the government-sanctioned contract known as marriage, which affects everything from our tax bracket and our ability to inherit to our custody status regarding children. Straight couples have all sorts of protections under the law that we don’t enjoy; 1049 federal laws are affected by marital status, according to the General Accounting Office of the US.

The man I love and I could be forced to testify against each other in court. Married couples can’t.

The citizenship that gay people enjoy in this country is not equal to the citizenship enjoyed by heterosexuals. Don’t you think that should be fixed?
