Breezy, ephemeral songs?

Recently I stumbled upon this song. I didn’t like it at first, but then became addicted. Only once ever before, I got the experience of a song growing on me, from distinctly unfavorable to ear-worm: T-ara’s Roly-poly, back in 2011.

Coincidentally or not, the group Le Sserafim also has another song that puzzled me so much I opened a thread to find out why I love it. According to wiki/NME,

Surprisingly melodic, the disco-tinged ‘Hot’ is a smooth, funky pop number that echoes the breezy, ephemeral quality of 2023’s ‘Perfect Night’.

So I guess I want suggestions of music pieces that are “breezy” and “ephemeral” (and perhaps “smooth”?). I don’t use Spotify, but even if I did, I doubt the app would be able to recommend, since my taste is all over the place, very varied. Though it looks like I’m biased toward K-pop (it’s somewhat true), my favorites include Thai, French, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, classical, etc. It’s just that, for thousands of songs I’ve always been able to say after 1 hearing that Yes I like this / No it isn’t for me, but ‘Hot’ is 1 of the very, very few exceptions, so I want to dive deeper to find the sauce.

My “question of the month” is along the same lines. This is intended as an extension, not a hijack.

I have certain songs that have “something” that appeals to me. And I’m not sure what it is.

For me I can come up with a list. For the OP it’s “Hot” and I assume similar songs. I’m wondering if there are characteristics of songs and we have our personal preferences.

FYI, some of my songs with that “something” are: These Dreams - Heart, I’ll Never Get over You Getting Over Me - Expose, Too Much Heaven - Beegees, Eternal Flame - Bangles, The Flame - Cheap Trick, Amanda - Boston. Love Bites - Def Leppard..

Heavens Gonna Happen Now

There She Goes by The Las

I don’t know if it’s breezy, but definitely ephemeral. I love Heart. I call that “the D&D song.” These dreams in the mist…

Feels Like We Only Go Backwards by Tame Impala

Some Girls are Bigger Than Others - The Smiths

I’ve heard the Smiths described a lot of ways. But “breezy and ephemeral” is not one of them

“Breezy and ephemeral” brings to mind, for me, some of Christine McVie’s songs with Fleetwood Mac, though the sound of these isn’t really similar to the song in the OP. McVie’s singing voice was always seemingly effortless, and her songs tended to be love songs.

For some reason wouldn’t let me embed this one

You might be interested in the Scottish band Belle & Sebastian. Most of their songs sound breezy & ephemeral to me. Their newer stuff has more of a pop synth sound like the song you linked to.

On their website’s Videos page you can get a good idea of their sound. Videos — Belle & Sebastian

I don’t know if it’s quite what the OP has in mind, but the first song that came to mind was “Le Temps De L’amour” by Françoise Hardy.

Second song was “Dip In The Ocean” by Fountains Of Wayne

“Lovers in the long grass” describes 15–23 June 1975, the happiest week of my life. More than 50 years later, I still miss her terribly.

Spring, 1992. I was shopping at a department store in Prague when this started playing on a VCR. I stood there listening to it for a half hour.

The late Dolores O’Riordan. RIP.

Breezy, ephemeral? Something like Lush?

or something like New Jeans?

Lots of Dan Fogelberg songs fit into this category.
One of my favorites is There’s a Place in the World for a Gambler from his Souvenirs album.

Here are some from my playlists I think of as “breezy” (YMMV)

Before I knew – Basia Bulat

Blondie’s Dreaming – Cover by Imelda May

Cover Me In Sunshine – Pink

Ex’s & Oh’s – Elle King

In Dreams -Sierra Ferrell

Je veux – ZAZ

Love Story – Taylor Swift

Soak Up The Sun – Sheryl Crow

I’d also nominate “Linger,” from the same album as “Dreams.”

An excellent choice! :+1:

I want to add this song as well. The first time I heard it playing from a kiosk, I stopped dead in my tracks and said “What is that?”

Is this too on the nose for a ‘breezy’ song?

What do you want from it? Mood, situation, atmosphere, etc.

Not fully understanding the assignment, I’ll just throw this one out there. It’s a go-to “beach breezy” for me. Very lightweight, very ephemeral, like eating a Twinkie at a stoplight before it turns green.

Same album, similar vibe, different beat. Actually, if it lands right, you might grab this whole album.

Another one to try. Not sure if it’s exactly “breezy” but it’s smooth as butter dripping off a hot biscuit.
