Well, a common denominator is that they’re all ballads played much softer than what the band’s capable of.
Compare… well, I was going to list each artist’s “usual” fare ("Compare Eternal Flame to Walk Like an Egyptian; or Amanda to Rock’n’Roll Band."), but that’d make a long post of all-too-evident songs.
Hmmm, how do you feel about Sister Christian or Beth?
Beth is mu 32nd favorite song (I numbered my top 40). But Sister Christian doesn’t really fit. And it’s not really a comparison of other songs. For example, for the Carpenters “the song” is Touch Me When We’re Dancing. The songs are soft but “fuller”.
Hmmm, how do you feel about Sister Christian or Beth?
Whenever I hear “Sister Christian,” I remember a line from one of my favorite TV shows, Pushing Daisies: “‘Sister Christian’ is nothing but a heavy-petting power ballad.” ![]()
