So, where else do you guys go, anyway? You guys that are rolling around on the floor, pissing and moaning about how liberal the SDMB is, you must have some alternative, right? Some place where your ideas get a fair hearing and, as a result of that fair hearing, are universally adopted as sensible and intelligent.
Because that’s all it would take, right? If you got a fair hearing instead of being shouted down by moonbats, you would win the greater majority of your debates. Or so you seem to imply.
And yet, here you are? Were you fooled, conned, seduced by promises of sweet, sweet non-partisan fairness? And then we trapped you? Was it a bear trap, covered over with leaves? How, perzackly, did we trick you? And how come it took you so long to catch on?
Wasn’t me, I haven’t changed my views much at all in about forty years. Sure never claimed to be non-partisan. My views used to be pretty radical, now, they’re just lefty. Is that it, maybe? The world changed and you didn’t?
Are you one of the last dinosaurs, looking in confusion as that first snowflake drifted down, thinking, “What the fuck is that?”.
Because it doesn’t come across as a plea for a more reasoned approach: it comes across as a quixotic attempt to get liberals to say, “Oh, no, what a load of hypocrites we are!”
If instead you show us what you consider that reasoned discourse to look like, by engaging in it yourself, then an attached request that others engage in similar discourse is going to be more acceptable.
Equity in this case doesn’t mean, of course, that there are an equal number of posters on each side. You’re asking for folks to treat news from the left and the right equally. Let’s see you start by doing so yourself.

I think public sector unions are a bad influence. But if I share that opinion amongst those who agree with me, it meets with approval, not examination.

Surely there are some “liberal” (however one chooses to define the term) posters on this board who can challenge you. I fail to see why you deserve special treatment for insistently taking on the Sisyphean task of trying to “educate” all the others for whom you have obvious contempt.
Feel free to complain at length about how much it hurts to slam your hand in a car door, too, and how in a fair world car doors wouldn’t hurt so much, but gosh-darnit, you’re just gonna keep slamming your hand in that car door until hell freezes over.
Rand Rover said “The liberals here crow over and over about how they are unbiased seekers of truth in this godforsaken world”. No we don’t. There is no Liberal Mission Statement or Charter of SDMB Liberals which has as part of its defining core statement of values that we are unbiased seekers of truth who act at all times with perfect objectivity. We’re here on the SDMB because we want to be and its fun. Therefore we post where we want to in the manner we want to.
So if someone posts a thread that is critical of the left, of course we’ll react differently than if someone posts a thread that is critical of the right. Because we’re human beings here for fun, not (say) professional debate moderators or anything. Anyone who claims that the SDMB left, as a whole, will react with precise objectively equality to left-favorable vs right-favorable threads is insane and wrong. Thus your repeated attempts to demonstrate something that everyone already knows to be true is pointless and stupid.
Which isn’t to say that I’ll look at any reaction the SDMB ever has to anything and just laugh it off… but particularly when the threads are just “hey, here’s something goofy to chat about” as opposed to “let’s soberly debate the truth of this proposition”, then nonequal responses prove exactly nothing that wasn’t already patently obvious.
Indeed–and Bricker, take it as instructive that neither I nor you responded to this ridiculous claim of Rand Rover’s. Rather than compare and contrast some nebulous Liberal Establishment’s response to every thread, compare and contrast your own response to this claim and to other claims made that parrot ridiculous stereotypes of conservatives.
