I agree. And thanks for setting me straight. It is always hard to objectively evaluate yourself-----so much to the point that most of us don’t even try.
If that is true, then you are right - it is sad.
Isn’t there some way you could use your power of scathing wit for good?
That was long ago, back when I was going through withdrawal. I appreciate you trying to help, but it also comes across a bit mocking. I assume that is not your intent. You may be frustrating as hell to argue with, due to tactics I disagree with, but you’re not horrible or anything.
Literally everyone posts on this board because they have something to say that they think people want to hear. The insult this guy gave is just objectively a stupid one. He also didn’t say anything while I was hating on Bricker, so that means it’s probably not even personal.
There’s a reason I can see what you have written, and he cannot see what I have written. I don’t mean to come off as arrogant, but some Dopers are worth my time, and some aren’t.
My life isn’t great by any means, but I have a lot more to it than this message board. I actually enjoy posting here. It’s freeing not to have to worry about whether people like you. Though I am trying something new.
We’ll see how it works.
Oh, and I have a personal “policy” of apologizing in public for things I do in public.
I’ve always enjoyed your posts, BigT----Well, as often as I run into them. I’m not stalking you. ** Fotheringay-Phipps** is on my mental ignore list----meaning I’m trying to keep myself out of an echo chamber, and I don’t think he intentionally says stupid things. He’s not on my actual ignore list. I reserve that for trolls who have yet to be banned.
But really, who has such a boring life that they can look up information for random people on the internet? And yet, Google is my go to for instant answers. So one of our 7 billion companions has found time to answer my stupid question. Usually.
So, thanks to all of you people who are working to set me straight.
Welcome to the Dope! I’m sure you’ll like it here.
I think you are totally misreading the situation here.
Then I’ll suggest you are misreading the purpose of my comment. Like I said, I’m trying something new.
Speaking of children, E, would you ever murder one? A simple yes or no will do.
Bricker may not be a pile of shit sculpted into human form, but he is pretty chickenshit in the Gettysburg thread. I’m not playing along anymore with his ‘"let me snipe at liberals’ inconsistencies, while refusing to defend my own position" bullshit.
His excuse is that other people in the thread had already made the case for his stated position. Their arguments had already been ripped to shreds, however.
What a joke.
Yeah, that thread was pretty obviously Bricker trolling and it went off the rails for him quickly.
Calling him out again.
Here he is flat out lying about what has been said in a thread so he can invent a reason why his lying was okay. And he was called on it before I posted, with no response.
The guy who claims to have integrity once again shows he has none.
I appreciate Bricker’s contributions most of the time. I don’t get the Bricker hate.
Many of us are turned off by Bricker’s despicable right-wing opinions.
People who do not have health insurance cannot survive a major health crisis, but Bricker is happy to let those people die.
And then, to increase the irritation, he babbles on about “non-falsifiable” — if anyone challenges his assumptions he’ll invoke his faulty standards of proof — and also (despite that he seems to claim all morality is relative) call his detractor “immoral.” Notice how he twists the point at the end of the excerpted post: “I’d rather die, myself, than …” The discussion wasn’t about Bricker dying; it’s about his complacency in supporting Ryan_No_Care which would cause the deaths of others.
Many right-wingers are too ignorant to cope with economic analyses or utilitarianism. Some are obsessed with hyperlibertarian thought and have let Alex Jones and other YouTube bugs or mises.org make them honestly believe that health care for all would magically arise if the gummint just got out of the way.
But neither of these describe Bricker. He’s fully aware that his policies would destroy the lives of millions and that delights him. His post shrieks: “I’ve got mine. Fuck you!” If he were a multimillionaire he might be able to enjoy life by knowing that others can’t fly on private jets or eat caviar or hire the best hookers. Since he’s not so successful, he likes knowing that poor people can’t get medical treatment, can’t go to the opera, etc. I doubt if he was some childhood bully who enjoyed crippling living animals, but in adulthood he’s become a bitter little man.
He’s got me on Ignore or I’d have clicked on the above post and asked him, since he wants “people to pay their own costs,” about police protection, public schools, public defenders. I suspect that he supports public education but not because he wants poor people to improve their lot for themselves, just because he thinks general education(*) will improve life for the “better people” like himself.

- By “education”, he means training to become cogs in the economic machine that supports the elite. I’m sure he opposes taxpayer-funded teaching of critical thinking skills, social sciences, or humanities. In another thread he opposed all federal spending on art or science until the weight of evidence was sufficient to expose his hypocrisy. He tries to avoid making his inhumane views clear, preferring to babble on and on about states’ rights: if the sovereign Commonwealth of Virginia wants to discriminate against the poor or a minority race, that’s “democracy at its finest. Your side lost. Giggle giggle.”
There are a few right-wingers at SDMB with views as despicable as Bricker’s. But they are mostly doltish drones who idolize Trump and only read RightWingLies.com. Bricker, OTOH, is obviously intelligent and probably even clicks on mainstream news sites. That’s what makes his hatreds so sad. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Hate of him or hate by him?
If you do want to “get” it, you could read this thread.
And click on a few of the links. I came into this thread ready to defend him, but that was only because I hadn’t read most of what he’d posted. When you do, it’s hard not to notice some patterns emerge. Patterns of debate that are destructive to honest discussion.
Translation: he wins debates with liberals, and they hate that.
Regards,
Shodan
I clicked into the thread, and perused it some, even found the energy to contribute a post, but before I teased out the details of whatever seems to have inspired your latest reopening, I was overcome with an exquisite sense of ennui.
Could I trouble you to point out Bricker’s offending post(s), as well as the others, to contextualize it (them)?
Many thanks.
I love watching liberals twist statements into pretzels. Newsflash for ya - nowhere in there did he say he was happy to let people die.
And I gotta admit that I got a laugh out of your characterizing the idea that people should be responsible for themselves as a “despicable right-wing opinion”. That’s comedy gold right there.
Nobody even bothered to sculpt you.
