I think then dress boutique scene transcends typical vomit/poop humor in that the central point of that scene was to see Wiig’s charachter desperately trying to keep her shit together in front of Helen.
And now I’m craving a Jordan Almond.

Good one;)
Wiig and Byrne’s almond exchange was painful and hilarious at the same time.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the part that bothered me the most…
The shit jokes weren’t so bad. What really bothered me was the discussion about bleaching their assholes. I don’t get why in the hell people would do that.
Although yesterday was the opening of Hangover II, I promised to wait until my brother gets to town next weekend to go see it with him - so, my SO and I went to see Bridesmaids yesterday.
We were in the same category - after seeing the previews, we had no intention of going to see what looked like a very lame chic-flick. I am so glad we changed our minds.
This was really very funny in parts - made up for just a few segments that were a tad long and not-so-funny. Melissa McCarthy* owns this show - she was absolutely perfect and fearless in this role! I think we have just seen the break-out vehicle for the next great comic actress! I thought she was great in the TV show, Samantha Who? and is great in Mike and Molly, but this film seals the deal.
I will not be surprised to be going to see Bridesmaids II coming to theaters next summer, and will be looking forward to it!
I didn’t know this until after seeing the movie, but McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone, is also an actor – he played the TSA agent in Bridesmaids.
One of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time. Almost all of the jokes landed, and then the human aspects of the characters landed as well. Nicely done. Loved the scene where Megan goes to Annie’s house. Turned a potential caricature into a relatable, sympathetic figure.
The ending could have been handled much differently, butHelen revealing her own insecurities and vulnerabilities and opening the door to a potential friendship was much more satisfying than, say, getting her “comeuppance” by being publically humiliated somehow, which a lesser film probably would have given us.
All I can say to this is “whatever.” Anything can be funny if done right, and anything can be unfunny if not. This scene was hysterically funny. My 70-year-old mother was sitting next to me laughing like crazy, so I don’t buy the argument that you’re too mature for this type of comedy. Some folks just need to lighten up.
About the vomit and shit scene:
I laughed my ass off a Borat, which had a scene involving shit. But there was a context that made it funny - Borat’s cluelessness and lack of understanding of social norms and the reactions of the people at the dinner party. The Bridesmaids scene was just about people puking and shitting.
If it had been funny, I would have laughed.
Okay, fair enough if you didn’t think it was funny, but I disagree. The characters trying (to varying degrees) and failing to keep their dignity intact while puking and shitting was what made the scene funny to me, not necessarily the puking and shitting itself.
I cracked up at that scene because you could tell Wiig’s character was trying to be the “bigger person” but failed and she was genuinely happy about it.
That’s right. Humor is never subjective. It’s objective, and the only appropriate judge is YOU, gaffa. Thank you for informing us. I thought it was funny, and I laughed, but now I see the error of my ways.
See my earlier posts. There were other funny scenes in this film. As it is, I thought it was a good relationship comedy with one really unfortunate scene. Did you see where I said earlier:

Pretty much ruined an otherwise decent film for me. All I can hope is that the person authoring the DVD puts in good chapter marks no I can just hit “next” and skip that whole scene.

Why would I want to purchase the DVD if I didn’t basically like the film?
As for your snark, in discussions about humor, everyone assumes that all statements about humor, and whether or not something is funny, are subjective. Adults call these things “opinions”. You found the poo-poo hilarious. Don’t get all defensive, own it.
I don’t remember what I laughed at as a child, but I doubt that I laughed at shit and puke.
For future reference, here are the things I don’t generally tend laugh at:
Embarrassment
Pain
Feces
Vomit
correction: the NOT air marshall.
Finally saw this movie this morning. Loved it. Very painful to watch in parts, but the rest made up for it. My favorite line came from the very end, at the wedding:
Wilson Phillips walks out.
Annie: (turns to Helen) Really?
Helen: Last one, I promise.
That and Megan ambushing Annie in the galley.
Hmm this movie just fell flat for me. Maybe it’s aimed at women, but my wife only thought it was so-so. I’m not into poop humor, but that was probably the funniest part. The main character seemed pathetic and not worthy of the cop’s attention.
I wanted the movie to end with Annie finding something break her tail lights with, but it was nice to have Helen redeem herself a bit.
I thought it was OK. I expected a tacked-on resolution to the cop love story, but not quite that tacked-on. And the puke/shit scene seemed like it was inserted only to appeal to the lowest common denominator. But overall, a decent effort, with more believable characters than most comedies.
Just caught this yesterday. Easily the most laughter I can remember in a theatre before. I seriously wondered if a couple of the women behind us were about to stroke out, they were howling so hard.
*"There’s sperm everywhere … I cracked a blanket in half.” *
All in all I loved it and fortunately it wasn’t a female Bachelor Party, which I thought really sucked. The casting was perfect and many of the lines were a hoot, like Wiig and the young shopper dissing each other in the store.
Six months from now I’ll be ready to Netflix it all over again.
