Forget taxing churches…just take away their free parking!
You are confusing war on religion with not always getting everything you want.
Exactly.
Just give me 24 hours to get out of town first.
I got something out of it too. When Stewart talked about the church being part of a society, I thought “That applies to me too, I’m part of a society”. I could be more tolerant of groups who don’t believe the same way I do.
“Tolerant” as in understanding, not “tolerant” as in accepting, because there’s a difference.
This clip is excellent ammunition for people who complain that there’s a war on religion.
Loved the “sausage fest” discussing reproductive rights.
It’s a Bizarro World argument. What right is being eroded? The right to push their religious beliefs onto their employees whether they’re Catholic or not? Sorry bishops, but Griswold v. Connecticut was decided forty-seven years ago. No one is forcing them to use birth control and now no one is forcing them to pay for birth control. If they want to make the accounting argument I wonder how long before they suggest that even if an employee pays for birth control out of her pocket, the employer is still paying for it by proxy? After all, they’re paying the salary and that should five them the moral right to have a say in how their employees spend it.
There’s a word for that kind of relationship with your employer. It isn’t “employee.”
Link for Canucks - I’m not sure whether or not Australians can watch there.
Fucking brilliant!
With apologies to Wallace Stevens, I hope?
I don’t know what yourt blathering on about. I still feel superior to the vast majority of humanity.
Shut up. Shut the hell up.
Quit this, all of you. He ain’t breaking any rules, as was thoroughly discussed several weeks ago. Your exasperation at quarries and Bo aren’t the topic of this thread, so don’t derail it by harping on it.
Thank you.

And in case it’s not obvious by the comments, for those who haven’t seen the clip: At the end of the segment Stewart said something like, “I don’t give my kids ice cream every night. But while they don’t get what they want, they don’t call me the Hitler of ice cream.”
And the kicker was when they showed a picture of Stewart with a chocolate ice cream Hitler mustache.
Bwuh ? I’m in France and it shows up just fine.
My father was from a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses. (He himself wasn’t one, but most of his close relatives were.) They once planned to let a newborn baby die rather than have a blood transfusion; a judge awokened in the middle of the night signed the order that saved the baby’s life.
I would be interested in knowing if a Jehovah’s Witness owned business provided a health insurance that wouldn’t allow blood transfusions if there would be as much outrage.
Slightly unrelated, but Santorum is on record as saying he does not believe in contraception even between married partners. That’s going to be one hell of a tough sell, almost as much as he, Romney, and Gingrich all saying they’d do their utmost to illegalize porn.
Oh, for crying in my sink!! Here’s the correct link.
You know, the best quote about this whole fiasco that I’ve read comes from aNYT OP ED:
So where’s the Downfall parody?
