Short and inadequate synopsis until it’s available:
Jon shows clips of an all male group of clerics up-in-arms because of Obama’s “war on religion”- i.e. mandating that healthcare insurance offered by Catholic organizations to non clerical employees offer contraception. One young priest proclaims his willingness to die to defend or preserve his faith in a fey voice that lets you know if you held a gun to his head it’d be a race to see which he finished doing first: denying Christ, praising Allah, or pissing on himself. Then a Baptist minister warns of how Obama is, of course, just like Hitler and he quotes the once-powerful but thoroughly-emasculated-from-being-overly-quoted-by-drama-queen-assholes-with-delusions-of-martyrdom statement by Martin Niemoller:
And of course the guy sees this happening now with Obama’s… um… not giving the religious groups every single solitary thing they want.
Jon doesn’t point out that the same guy’s true statement would likely be "First they came for the communists and I said ‘There’s one over there, and I think that guy on the end is one, and ditto to the unionists’, but he does turn to the camera and give a history lesson, starting with (I’m paraphrasing) “First off, when the Nazis came for you, they left with you, it wasn’t a metaphor.” He talks about how Hitler was pretty much all-thug from the start, murdered his enemies openly in the streets and in their homes for years before coming to power, made absolutely no secret that Ethnic Cleansing was high on his To Do List for years while consolidating his power, and that to give der Teufel his due one thing Hitler wasn’t even the least little itty bitty bit was subtle.
Yes, they were secretive later about the death camp showers, but that was only after they had very openly and in full view of the world destroyed Jewish businesses and neighborhoods and synagogues and THEN made the Jews pay the state for the damage, and then ordered every Jews from unborn infants to centenarians and from radicals to war heroes and from paupers to billionaires to surrender their property and be transported into very obviously overcrowded ghettos and then onto cattle cars, etc.. In other words, it was not a secret, it did not start small, and above all else, it is IN ABSOLUTELY NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM REMOTELY SIMILAR to the “plight” of Christians in the U.S., a group that is not only in the vast majority but includes most of the elected officials in D.C. and who collectively receive hundreds of billions of dollars per year in tax free donations and who are easily among the least oppressed people who ever lived.
He also discusses the very real Christians undergoing oppression: those in some Fundamentalist Muslim countries and China and other areas where Christianity is an unprotected minority- and compares them with the overfed and undersuffering smegmatrons who are continually bitching about how much their ‘drink the bloody grape juice’ pharisaical fagbashing multibillion dollar edifice erecting perpetrators of sanctified apeshit are being persecuted, just not where you can see it.
Only more, you know, restrained.

Mine too. I thought it was going to have something to do with Pope Benedict’s Hitler Youth past. (Although on further reflection that would’ve been, “When the Nazis came for you, you left with them” instead.)
Reminded me of one of his all time great lines - he was doing a piece on how the Church of Scientology was complaining of religious persecution in Germany. His response -(and this is a paraphrase - it’s been years) “You think that’s persecution? Believe me, when the Germans are REALLY persecuting you, YOU’LL KNOW.”
It always chaps my ass when some ass clown feels fit to use the “First they came for…” metaphor to further their pet cause. Stewart also a played a similar clip a couple of years ago with Laura Ingraham (or one of the other right wing harpies) using it to talk about healthcare reform. Something along the lines of “First they came for the rich, and I didn’t speak out…”
For another terrific over-the-top response on the contraceptive issue, here’s an excerpt from a letter to the editor of the Cleveland Plain Dealer in yesterday’s paper:
