Okay, I’ve just spent a very enjoyable Monday evening drinking heavily with Tir, Twisty, Paulbersker and Crusoe (who sadly couldn’t make it on Saturday). A few points arising:
(1) Angua can whinge all she likes, but it was the team I was on that came up with ‘Clamden town’ and I think either Francesca or Twisty hatched this particular gem.
(2) Much though I hold Angua in the highest regard, I have never actually proposed to her, which leads to…
(3) My dear Eve Luna there were no ulterior motives attached to my marriage proposal. The notion of a green card never entered my head. I suggested getting married because you are attractive, fun, sociable, smart and can bake really good rugelach. What more could a man hope for?
(4) It’s true that I didn’t previously mention Sci-Fi Sam. However, Sci-Fi Sam was the only female who actually asked me for my phone number. This (a woman in a pub asking me for my phone number) hasn’t happened since about 1906, so it was a particularly heart-warming moment for me, and I’m happy to share it with the group.
Harris? 'Twas me who was mortally disappointed by the functional knowledge of British internet geeks, thanks awfully.
Had a fab time, thanks to y’all. Definetly one of the high points of my European trip. As said trip included a week in the fleshpots of Amsterdam, that says quite a bit. (Although it probably says more about me than you lot…)
Special thanks to paulberkserker and Twisty for taking the time to explain to me the various British TV shows and commercials they were making fun of, although I didn’t have the heart to tell paul that I was only making out one word in ten when he was talking to me. My fault, I’m sure: I didn’t drink nearly enough.
(Actually, of all the people I met in Europe, Twisty was the only person whose accent didn’t completely flummox me. And that’s including other American tourists. Must be genetic…)
Anyway, 'sgreat to meet you all, put some faces with names and all that. I look forward to doing it again next time I’m out Trans-Atlantic-way, and hope to see some of you out here in California some day.
It was very definitely my team with the Clamden Town. It was a passed over Cracker question and while I’d like to claim personal responsibility for such wit, it was actually Alex B who came up with it. You can see why we’re such a good partnership, can’t you?
