I have a tent. I could camp, providing someone else put it up for me. I’ve yet to manage that.
I would like to go drinking in Dublin. I’ve never even visited Ireland yet, so it’s about time. I was mentioning this very idea to Twisty on Monday evening.
Amsterdam… sounds good. I have a friend or two who live there, and Coldfire would, I’m sure, make a very good host. All the better if the stunningly lovely Eloise is still around.
I have a clump of friends who organised a barge trip every year, and I went along once or twice. It’s sort of like camping in a heavy wooden tent on sewage, but it does involve lots and lots of drinking and good times for one whole week. So that’s another idea to bear in mind.
Is that really appropriate discussion for such a message board? 
Nope, but they ended up in Amsterdam through a long chain of circumstances. My paternal grandfather was born in Riga, and his mother’s family was from Courland (now Latvia/Lithuania). He came to the States in 1905, but another branch of the family went to South Africa. From there, branches of them have since redispersed to Israel, Spain, Iran, the U.K., France, Argentina, Australia, and apparently Amsterdam.
So another place I hang out online is www.jewishgen.com (I subscribe to a few of the e-mail lists). One day a guy posts that he’s looking for the burial place in South Africa of a person I knew to be my grandfather’s cousin, and whose widow I met when she visited my grandparents some years back. It was his uncle. The guy turned out to be really cool, and he and his family live in Amsterdam. I’d love to meet them sometime!
And why are there no frigging pictures up yet from Saturday? I counted at least 3 digital cameras!

Ianzin I still think the barge thing is a good idea. Plus Dublin too, let me know when you think you might want to go, and I’ll see if I can time my “Snuggling Twisty” visit for the same time.

well theres a surprise. on every single one of the photos i look absolutely mashed. granted i was at the end with the quiz, but the ones in the chandos i’d barely been drinking 2 hours.
