You have a totally reasonable point though and with you I agree. I suppose I just assumed that everyone knew she was on a psych hold for trying to hurt herself or others. Then again, even after it was pointed out, certain folks found it necessary to continue on.
Even if we didn’t know she had potentially hurt herself, I really don’t understand how anyone can possibly make jokes about a situation where a woman and her 2 year old son are rushed to the hospital via ambulances. Even if she was drugged out of her mind, a two year old being taken to the ER is not funny.
I’m hesitant to believe it was a honest-to-goodness breakdown. I don’t necessarily believe that she fully intended to kill herself or her kids. Britney’s been upping the “shock ante” for some time now ensuring that she never leaves the spotlight.
What do you think is next, a hunger strike? Is Britney going to strap a fake bomb to her chest? When will it end?
In my defense, I don’t know her. She’s a celebrity to be mocked. I laughed at the astronaut in the diaper, I laugh at Michael Jackson’s disintergrating face, I laughed and laughed and laughed at Paris Hilton crying like a child when she got sent back to jail.
Come to think of it, I did laugh when my uncle stepped onto my aunt’s porch and howled at the moon until the police were called, so I’m an equal opportunity asshole.
And all this still doesn’t mean I don’t feel sympathy for her or her children because-- check this out-- I can make a joke AND feel sympathy AT THE SAME TIME! Imagine that! Plus, I don’t disparage other people making jokes at the expense of someone they do not know acting like a crazy fuck.
A three hour standoff with the police? Only to be carted off on a gurney? If you can’t laugh at that, then you may be a little over senitive.

What about the possibility that someone could claim they are going to kill themselves and kids just because they’re an attention whore? I could right now get out of my chair and make the whole office think I was off my rocker, doesn’t mean I am.
I don’t deny that she’s clearly incredibly unstable. I also agree that she has proven herself to be a very bad mother throughout her children’s lives- whether that is due to illness or just stupidity is inconsequential. Hopefully she can get the help she needs, ASAP. I’m just sayin’- there ain’t a damned thing funny about a two year old being held hostage by his potentially suicidal mother, then being taken to the ER in an ambulance.
See, I’m not totally humorles. I think it’s fine to make fun of her for slutting around or getting Starbucks 100 times a day, but what happened last night is a whole nother bird. Last night, a child was taken to the hospital in an ambulance while his mother was tied down to a board and taken to the hospital as well. Just different lines, I guess- we all have our own.
Yeah, on Perez they had video of the paparazzi following Kevin Federline, who was following an SUV that had his kids in it. Federline had to drive very erratically in order to keep the kids from being photographed. He did a really good job of protecting them. It was so sad, though, that they couldn’t even leave those little babies alone. He (KF) shouldn’t have been put in that position. And, yeah, I know I’m feeding this whole thing by talking about it and looking at sites like Perez. I don’t have any real problem with the celebrities themselves being stalked by the paparazzi, but I think following the kids like that crossed waaaaaay over the line.
I actually agree with you, but for some it’s hard to seperate the crotch flashing and incessant goofiness from this episode. Looked at from a distance it’s all part of the same thing, so really I don’t think that there’s any harm intended by our mild funning on her, even for this latest chunk of batshit.
Could she really get any more recognizable though? I mean, the girl is on the cover of every single magazine, the headline on every news show, and my father even knew what was going on with her. . . because he read about it in the WALL STREET JOURNAL. All of this was before last night, of course.
I seriously doubt us talking about her on here is going to do anything for her bank account heh.
I come from a family where crazy runs like Secretariat on Derby Day. Been crazy myself. And I have little sympathy for it from anyone when the person doesn’t seem to be willing to take any steps to improve - including some of my own relations. Unless you are so crazy that you can’t care for yourself at all (in which case, you need to be hospitalized) if you are a functional adult - you need to take some responsibility for your own health. I feel the same way about non-compliant diabetics and alcoholics who continue to drink and make excuses (fall off the wagon and admit you screwed up - cool - fall off the wagon and whine about how no one understands you and everyone is out to get you - not cool). Celebrity or not. And that’s what does me in about Brittney - she has had chance and chance again to make healthy choices - and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a healthy choice reported. Don’t like the papparrzi - move to North Dakota and be boring for a year or two. Its possible the media is feeding me only her unhealthy choices - wouldn’t know - but she is making plenty of ones that make me think she has no motivation to help herself with a cure.
I fully admit that I don’t know a whole lot about mental illness, aside from what I’ve read on this board. But isn’t it true that some people have to hit “rock bottom” before they can crawl back out and make themselves new people? Maybe she was just off her rocker enough to not be able to make healthy decisions (or maybe she saw no benefit to it). I dunno, I suppose I just would hope this would do it for her and she’ll finally turn her life around. Who knows.
The problem is that Britney Spears seems to hit “rock bottom” every couple of weeks.
First she got divorced from Federline and then instantly started boozing it up and shoving her crotch in the face of every photographer that would look.
Then she has a varity of traffic problems including driving without a license and driving under the influence.
Then she shaves her head while babbling like a mental patient.
Then she goes to rehab.
Then she gets out of rehab and starts this insane custody battle where she continues to act crazy and then starts to refuse court ordered drug testing.
And on and on and on…
It’s well past reached the point where I think the whole thing is a calculated plot before her real “finds Jesus” comeback sometime in the future.
