I’ve never seen a UFC fighter win a title belt and be booed within the first minute. It takes something really special to get that, and then to top it off by giving the crowd the double bird.
Stay classy and beloved, Brock.
Seriously, you made more people dislike you than Tito Ortiz? That’s real talent.
I think what started it was right after the fight when he got in Mir’s face and told him "“Talk all that shit now”. This prompted the ring officials to come between them and pull them away from each other.
Exactly. Dana needs to sit him down and explain that we don’t llike our MMA fighters to act like professional wrestlers. Just when the sport looks like it can be taken seriously by the media, you got jokers like him running his mouth.
He shouldn’t have done what he did to Budweiser. That was completely uncalled for and not classy. The wife comment was a little over the top.
With Frank Mir he was disrespectful . I think he took the pre-fight trash talk way too seriously. But from my perspective Mir has spent the last two years taking every shot he could at Brock. Mir seemed upset that Brock got a title shot prematurely and did not pay his dues. I can see where the much negativity could cause Brock to want take the piss out of him after the fight.
As for flipping off the fans they deserve it. I wouldn’t have any respect for them either. Since the man has entered the UFC the fans have done nothing but boo him, deserved or not. If they aren’t willing to give him any respect why should he return the favor.
If there already isn’t one I’m gonna start a UFC 100 thread because that was a pretty nice card.
And this is why no one is ever going to like him. If you can’t act mature, any little thing you do is going to get blown out of proportion and no one will ever become endeared toward you.
It’s circular and the easiest way to end it would be to grow up. I’m not holding my breath for such an occurrence.
After watching that post-fight press conference, I have a little bit of hope for Brock.
What he did was uncalled for and in no way classy.
But it looks like Dana impressed that on him in the post-fight meeting.
Of course, Dana had to make sure Brock stayed put through the pre-fight conference, so who knows?
But I’m willing to give Brock the benefit of the doubt. He’s not a complete fighter yet, although right now he doesn’t seem to need to be, but he’s improving. And he seems to have been told in no uncertain terms that he screwed up.
I can relate to him, even if I think that his post-fight antics were unnecessary and low-class.
Drama sells. You think Mike Tyson would have been that big a draw if he was a nice guy out of the ring? Or Ali?
One of the things that makes pro wrestling popular is balancing good guys and bad guys. MMA- and UFC in particular- can use some more bad guys right now.
After seeing the post-fight, it sounds like Dana put quite the smack down on him for the Bud Light/Coors Light comments. He did explain himself pretty well and apologize so I don’t dislike him quite as much, but I’m still far from a fan of his.
Most people I know seem to be arguing that the reason they like UFC is that it is so unlike the WWE
Anyways, having obvious bad guys isn’t really drama. It’s more of a little kid’s version of the world, where good and bad are easily separable. I like to think that UFC is catering to smarter fans than that.
Meh. It’s unlike WWE in that it isn’t scripted, but in many ways it’s the same. Most of the fighters talk trash, except for the ones that don’t speak much English.
Even if Lesnar acts like a dick, there’s still a world of difference between getting in someone’s face after a fight and giving him a chairshot during one.
I also thought that Lesnar was making some dick comments, but the booing started immediately after the fight. It’s fair game, imo, to give it right back to the crowd. I didn’t hear much pre-fight smack talk, but then again, I don’t go looking for it. Mir did get lucky that first time around. He was literally being rolled…
Storming the bleachers =/= flipping the fans a double deuce.
I maintain that Lesnar is going to be great for business as long as he can hold onto the belt for a while. Who isn’t going to want to pay to see him get his comeuppance?
