OK, but what’s the difference between a bromance and a buddy movie?
Because every other movie is a buddy movie. It seems to me a bromance has to go much further than the typical wunza. (Wunza straight-laced apex predator who goes by the book. The otherza freewheeling subterranean autotroph who makes his own rules. Together they fight crime.)
And yeah, “Brokeback Mountain” cannot count by definition. It’s a romance between bros, not a bromance.
It seems to me that a buddy movie can have buddies who tolerate each other, or work together, or learn to appreciate the other’s unorthodox style, but a bromance has to go further. It has to be that if it was a male/female pairing you’d expect them to at least kiss before the closing credits. They can’t just be buddies, they have to be potential hetero life partners.
