There’s probably some mention of this elsewhere (I’m not a huge follower of this stuff) but could someone tell me what’s going on? I thought they were like committed enemies over the whole psychiatry/Scientology thing, and now they’re inviting each other to weddings?
Who backed down? Who admitted that maybe he or she was over-reacting? Who opined “I respect you despite your crazy batshit views?” Who claimed “Oh, the media made too much of a minor disagreement between Best Buddies Forever”?
Or have I just lost my mind at last? I thought she (and Matt Lauer) were at the top of the list of “People not invited to Tom Cruise’s wedding.”
I believe he apologized to her privately & she has reached out to Katie. Good on Brooke; I gotta feelin’ Katie’s going to need all the support she can get.
I understand, through the 47,000 entertainment magazines I read in the checkout line at WalMart, that he did give a very sincere, personal apology and she graciously accepted. It wasn’t on the front page because, and this is just me guessing here, that it was handled in a mature, graceful fashion. And we shoppers ain’t interested in that!
I kind of recall hearing that too - something about his just showing up on her doorstep to apologize. They sat, made nice, and since then she and Katie have become bests=est of friends. To which I say that shows a lot of class by both of them to be able to get past the public shit-flinging.
Of course, class has no part of the grocery checkout line reading material, so…
Did they actually get married? I saw something on TV about the mayor of Bracciano claiming the didn’t sign up for a civil wedding (which was their only opion other than the RC church under Italian law).
I read that they got married in a civil ceremony in L.A. and the wedding in Italy was a Scientology ceremony.
He did give a public half-assed apology to Brooke full of disclaimers about not believing in psychology. He didn’t just insult Brooke for the medication she took, he also criticized her career saying she wasn’t successful because of it. I’m baffled by why she’d want to go to that freaks wedding.
On Jay Leno, Brooke told Jay that Tom “came over to my house and he gave me a heartfelt apology. He apologized for bringing me into the whole thing and for everything that happened,” she said.
Brooke went on to say, “I was so impressed with how heartfelt it was. And I didn’t feel at any time that I had to defend myself, nor did I feel that he was trying to convince me of anything other than the fact that he was deeply sorry. And I accepted it.”
So, publicly he’s a raving prick to her, but privately apologizes? She’s a much nicer, more forgiving person than I am. He would have had to make it public to even get off my vendetta list and onto my ignore list. But I’d make a terrible celebrity, unless it was one of the getting-drunk-and-punching-fans sort.
Yes, he apologized to her but his rep also confirmed that Dr. Cruise still condems the use of antidepressants
"On an appearance on the “Tonight Show” last night, Shields told Jay Leno that Cruise “came over to my house, and he gave me a heartfelt apology. And he apologized for bringing me into the whole thing and for everything that happened.” Shields added that she was “impressed” with the “Mission: Impossible 3” star’s sincerity, and that Cruise was able to restrain himself from proselytizing about the evils of psychoactive pharmaceuticals.
Not that Cruise has changed his mind: According to his rep, who confirmed the apology, Cruise “has not changed his position about antidepressants, which as evidenced by the black label warnings issued by the FDA on these types of drugs, are unhealthy.”
