DrDeth:
Whether or not her little humorous anecdote is true or not makes no difference. No one is hurt by it not being true, there’s no misinformation being spread, nothing dangerous. She’s trying to amuse us, not spread racist lies.
But NOOO! you sniveling little internet bullies and cowards want to pick on her for her funny little story, you want to make that supremely unimportant thing the line where you make a stand for the truth. You dont want the truth, you cant possibly care about her little story, you just want to harass her. That’s cyberbullying.
So as I mentioned, this isn’t just about the Weber fairytale. This shit has been going on for years, and some of it is harmful misinformation.
Here Broomstick claims that posters here tell her that she should abandon her disabled husband because he can’t work:
::: kiss, kiss :::
Now, Jamie , be a dear and go threaten to run over the toes of the Big Meanies in the threads on poverty who tell me (though, of course , not in so many words) I should abandon my disabled husband as a liability because he can’t work anymore. Apparently I’m not intimidating enough.
What was actually said:
I know it sounds shocking and insulting, but as a ‘medical person’ I can see the practical sense in it. They don’t mean you should leave him. I know of two couples in this sort of situation who are unmarried but live together in long-term, committed relationships; one never got married and the other cancelled their planned marriage when the financial implications became clear.
When I read something like that, where she’s completely misinterpreting what is right there for all to see, it’s no wonder I doubt statements like in this thread :
The only thing I got on my recent trip through the poverty tunnel was somehow who harangued me for not successfully finding work despite a college degree, tried to officially sanction me because I didn’t apply for a job where lifting 100 pounds at a time frequently during a shift was a basic requirement (I am a small, middle-aged woman - WTF?), and told me I should kick my husband out because he was also unemployed and probably wasn’t actually disabled, just faking it to be a freeloader.
