Serious question: What’s a “southern apologist”?
I read that as southern anthropologists and couldn’t imagine what they had gotten up to.
I suspect southern apologists are those who suggest that blacks were actually better off under slavery, etc. But this is DrDeth so I could well be wrong.

This is an admission of extraordinary foolishness.
Especially in a text-only medium, it’s very appropriate for a listener to be able to question the literal truth of an assertion. If your response is to tell a “shaggy dog” story and then refuse to admit, when specifically asked, that it was an attempt at humor instead of an actual, true, story, then you’re a fool.
Of course, we could just use our common sense and move on…not really giving a shit.

What’s even more annoying is that she always claims she’s in a “special circumstance” when you try and give her advice. The principal should not have apologized. Rather, what he should have done is told the offenderati that they were the ones mistaken; not the school, not the student who normally recited the pledge, and certainly not the girl who recited the pledge in Arabic. In a perfect world, he could’ve told the morons to shove their stupidity.
ETA: Why does this remind me so much of those idiots who flipped out ove rthe Coca-Cola commercial with America the Beautiful sung in a number of languages and those who flipped out where upset because they confused that song with the National Anthem?
