BSG Season 1: What's the difference between the two DVD sets?

That’s pretty much all I was wanting to know. I think I’m going to buy one of them this weekend, but I got to wondering what’s different between the British set (that’s been available for a few weeks) and the US set (released more recently).

Can anoyone enlighten me ?

A friend of mine bought the UK version and it does not include the 3 hour pilot. Also, the music during the opening credits is supposed to be different.
The pilot is available seperately, as well.
IIRC, the US version has more extra features, too.

So, other than not having the Sernity trailer, the US version is the better of the two then ?

Another (obvious) difference is that unless you have a region-free DVD player, the British DVD set won’t play in an American DVD player (or vice versa).

I believe the British version the OP is referring to the version available at Best Buy that has been reformatted for Region 1 and NTSC. This version will indeed play on US DVD players and TVs. Aside from excluding the miniseries, this version includes additional scenes broadcast in the UK, but not in the US, due to the lack of commercials there.

BTW the music for UK season 1 is the same as the music from US season 2.

I thought they were shown on Sky in the UK, which has commercials (not like the BBC).

Ah, maybe so. I think the UK version still has some additional scenes not shown in the US. Maybe less commercials?

I don’t believe either version has the miniseries on it, which is sold separately. I could be wrong.

The US version, released later, um, this one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000AJJNFE/qid=1127605174/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-5301910-8403137?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846
Includes the miniseries as well.

Yes, I just bought the US version last week, which does include the miniseries. The miniseries is also sold separately.

The US version also has a bunch of extras, like commentary, that I believe the other does not.

Ah. Mea culpa.
