This evening, according to prices posted by the public at http://www.torontogasprices.com/ , gasoline prices at many stations have broken past the psychologically-significant $1/litre* barrier. They’d been flirting with it for a couple of days–98.5c/L, 99.2c/L, even 99.9c/L–and last night the number of stations posted with 99.9 increased. Tonight it was as if the floodgates had opened, and all the high price entries on the site were above $1.02/L.
[sub]*1 Canadian dollar per litre = 3.15 US dollars per US gallon[/sub]
Around here it’s going for about US$2.50 per gallon, which works out to CA$0.80 per liter at the current exchange rate. So, we’re a little cheaper than you. And we STILL think it’s high.
I’m sure that, once again, it is mere coincidence that the ga sprices spiked just before a sunny weekend. I am sure it will be mere coincidence when they drop on Sunday.
Is the price rise starting to affect your driving habits? I think it’s stressing my friends… last weekend they seememd relieved when we cancelled plans for them to drive their SUV down to meet me at my place and then take in a movie. And that was last weekend when it was only 95c/L.
There’s a reason why Canadian dealers are selling as many Toyota Echo hatchbacks and Smart fortwos and Pontiac Wave/Chevy Aveo5/Suzuki Sprint+ cars as they can. I’m really surprised that Honda hasn’t brought their small car, the Jazz, over here.
Yes, there may be a drop, but looking at the price chart on the link in the OP, there’s a long-term rise. And the prices here were rising sort of steadily all week, bot the usual kind of “jack it up on Friday afternoon” thing.
