Buck Rogers Live Action Movie

Possibly directed by Frank Miller

Why God? Why?

Will Hawk be in it?

Forget Hawk…who is going to play Wilma? That will make or break it for me. (I still have a little place in my libido reserved for Erin Gray.)

Oh, absolutely. Somewhere around here I have my list of 80s babes, including Gray, Stephanie Zimbalist, Jane Badler, Kirstie Alley, Dana Plato…

Ah, adolescence.

1.) Yeah, right.
2.) I suspect that Miller wouldn’t direct unless he wrote the damned thing, or had complete creative control over what got written. I’d be interested in what Miller would have done with the character if it was Dark Knight Returns-era Miller. Now I’m not so sure. The guy who could turn out those awful Batman and Robin comics is capable of anything.

3.) I can’t see this as successfu;l unless it’s completely re-invented. We’ve had at least three very different Buck Rogers franchises so far –
A.) The original pulp stories/novel (which had “Anthony” Rogers – he didn’t have a mickname in that) which featured a weird mix of primitive living and high tech, with Orientals being the Bad Guys (no way that’s politically correct today)

B.) The Comic Strip and Movie-serial Buck from the 30s, which inspred Flash Gordon and had alien planets.

C.) That Godawful Theatrical movie and TV series.
I can’t see any of them being credibly done and making a hit film. Maybe he’ll give us a post-apocalyptic hero with touches of future High Tech, with nods to the other versions. THAT would be like Frank Miller.

But it could all be a big put-on.

Buck Rogers was a book and comic strip, and more besides, before it was the familiar TV series. It most likely will be unrecognisable.
