Budgerigar eggs & chicks.

A friend of mine has a pair of bugerigars, named Albastrica (Female) and Verzulica (Male). Albastrica is about 2 1/2 and Verzulica (whom I call Casanova, because Verzulica looks like a particularly nasty word to pronounce) is about 3-5 (we’re not sure about his age). Here’s the problem - Casanova has been trying to get Albastrica to lay eggs and has successfully done so. Three times.

First time - Casanova took the eggs and dropped them from the cage…Ahem…

Second time - Albastrica abandoned the eggs and refused to sit on them.

Third time (now) - Albastrica ATE two of the eggs and abandoned the two others.

What exactly is going on here?

This page seems very complete. Is your friend giving them an out-of-sight area to nest in? It seems from that page that they’ll stress if they have to nest in the open. Budgies nest in tree hollows in their native habitat.
