I’m in the middle of a discussion with some friends. I’m trying to find some figures that show volume of sales (in product, not $$) of Bud and Bud Light vs. Coke and Diet Coke both in the US and Worldwide.
I believe that Coke far outsells Bud both in the US and world wide, but I’m having a hard time finding figures to back up my argument. If anyone could help me come up with some cites that could either prove, or disprove my argument I would really appreciate it.
What I’m looking for specifically is figures of volume sold of Bud light vs. Coke and Bud/Bud Light vs. Cole/Diet coke both in the US and world wide.
Once again, thanks for anything you can help me with.
If this post is all messed up, it’s because I haven’t slept in a couple of days
I don’t know about figures, but Coca-cola is is the best selling soft drink in almost every country in the world, while Budweiser is the best selling beer in only the US. This should help you a little bit.
Considering the amount of Coke product dribbling out of the fountains in almost every burger joint in America, along with the 7-11s and the AM-PMs, I would be SHOCKED if Bud came even close.
I also have no figures, but Coke and Diet Coke can be legally drinken by those under 21 (at least in the US). Which is a whole other market that Budweiser does not have access to.
According to the Anheuser-Busch Annual Report 2002, they sold 109.8 million barrels, or about 3.4 billion gallons of all 30 A-B beer brands worldwide. While the report does not mention me by name, I’m pretty sure I was good for about 5-10% of this.
According to Coca-Cola, they sold 2.8 billion unit cases, or over 4.2 billion gallons, of Classic Coke and Diet Coke. The sales of their other products were staggering as well, with Vanilla Coke moving 90 million unit cases alone. I had nothing to do with that.
So the two Cokes alone outsold Bud, Bud Light, Michelob, Busch, and…King Cobra and Natural Light among others.
