Buffy - 05/20/03 - Chosen (This is the end. And spoilers, obviously))

Money’s not a problem. I’m sure there’s some federal emergency funding that will kick in when your entire town is destroyed by an earthquake

As for Spike-- Are you sure the light was coming from him? Because I thought it blasted down through the roof first, and then shot out of him. I could be wrong…

And I just talked to a friend and fan on the weekend, and he didn’t know Spike was coming to Angel. He was impressed…

But I don’t think it’s gonna be a garden variety resurrection as has happened for Buffy, Angel, Cordelia… Expect him to make some interesting otherwordly appearances. Maybe he’ll end up trapped inside W&H like a genie in a bottle.

Stuck in the White Room, maybe?

Actually, in “Chosen” there was a narrow beam that went upward from Spike via the amulet, which punched a hole in the roof and let the sunshine in…

But the light that burned him up, that was definitely coming from within Spike.

Are you being serious? Because I think this completely misses the point of the last episode. She lost her house, her magic closet with its never-ending supply of designer clothes, and a bunch of imaginary childhood photos of Dawn. The house was most likely insured, assuming that homes in Sunnydale aren’t automatically hit with a “Act of Hellmouth” clause.

She gained complete freedom to do whatever she wants with the rest of her life, without fear that the world will end if she doesn’t stop it. I’d say that’s a net gain.

You say she has “very little work experience.” It’s not because she’s incompetent, it’s because every one of her jobs was cut short by her being The Chosen One. She’s got “very little education.” It’s not because she’s dumb (she got into UC Sunnydale, which Xander didn’t) but because she always had to deal with Slayer priorities. I’m not sure what “zero life skills” means, but that’s probably because of the Slayer business too.

Things aren’t going to be easy for her, but they’re not easy for any single parent. It’s just now, in her case, things aren’t impossible to manage. As Faith said, Buffy can now start trying to live like a normal person. If she wants to go back to school, she can. If she wants to get a better job, she can take her pick and start at entry-level. And I don’t see how having to borrow money from Giles or Angel (or Xander, or Willow, or Wood) would be “not empowering.” That just seems stubborn and prideful.

You ask “What is Buffy going to do?” The last shot summed that up perfectly: for the first time in her life, anything and everything she wants to do.
