Buffy Fans - You watching Ringer Sept 13? (SMG's new show)

I’ll give it a try. I think very highly of Ms. Gellar.

I’m watching this and only because of SMG. I did like Buffy (and Angel and loved Firefly. Dollhouse was eh.) and so that helps.

Why I’m quoting you is that there is an interview with her in a recent EW where she said that she thought movies would have these deep, complex and developed characters. WTF? Really? Or is that the line her and her publicist agreed she should say? I mean, it seemed to me that after Buffy, she was burnt out and just did a few movies to keep working. Don’t know why she can’t say that!

The pilot is on tonight - nothing better on, so may give it a try
I’m meh on the concept, and while I like SMG, I don’t like her enough to watch teh show just because of her (but evidently I like her enough to at least try)

Brian

Well, I’ll give it a shot, although it appears mainly an excuse for pretty people to wear fabulous clothes in beautiful rooms. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Sp0eaking of pretty people, no one noticed that Ioan Gruffudd is involved as well?

It’s got Buffy and Alpert so I’ll give it a chance. The premise doesn’t seem like something sustainable for multiple seasons though.

Well, that was underwhelming. I’ll give it two more episodes before cutting bait, but I’m not too hopeful that it’s going to get better.

Watched it tonight. It didn’t really hold my interest (other than the obviously not East Hampton location), and it will probably turn into another Lost – plenty of teasing the audience and never resolving anything. The concept would work better as a movie than a series.

Hunh, although utterly preposterous from beginning to end, I kind of liked the whole vibe of a modernized '40s serial, with a new cliffhanger every 15 minutes, like clockwork.

I’ve gotta agree, however, with the poster who said it’s probably unsustainable. Maybe for the length of a typical UK telly season (6 or 8 episodes, is it?)

In other words, it would make a good miniseries. Actually, it seems like a Lifetime Movie.

Frankly, I thought SMG was the weakest of the Buffy cast, but I gave the new show a shot tonite.

Looks like Tuesdays up to Sons of Anarchy I will be watching stuff from the DVR.

Watching it now. It’s one of the shortest pilots I’ve ever seen. Only 40 minutes and 15 seconds without commercials. That’s even shorter than Doctor Who (around 45 minutes).

 45 minutes is longer than any network show I watch. Without commericals, most of them are between 41.5 and 43.5 minutes.

:stuck_out_tongue: That shows how long it’s been since I’ve paid any attention to a network show. I didn’t realize they were crammed with 17 to 20 minutes of commercials for an hour show.

Most of what I watch is on Discovery, National Geographic, or History channel. DWTS and Castle is the only network shows I’ve seen in at least 7 years. Never noticed how much content they had without commercials.

I’m giving Ringer a shot only because of my love for SMG.

42 minutes of actual show has been the standard length for hour-long dramas for a long time now. At least a decade. Maybe two.

Well, it was ok. There’s some interesting characters. I’m a little curious to see where they develop.

I didn’t think they gave a good reason for Bridget to run off before the trial. She was safe under Police protection and I’d guess they’d put her in a Witness Protection program. Running off like that was just plain stupid. She’s in even more danger with this psycho out of jail and looking for her.

Anyone want to bet the real Siobhan isn’t dead? We all know she’s going to pop up somewhere in this story again.

There’s stuff in the back story I want to learn. How did Siobhan get so rich? I got the impression it’s her money and the husband is there taking her orders. Maybe I misunderstood the relationship? I guess we’ll find out.

I have a low tolerance for soap opera stories. They better keep up the suspense and intrigue. Otherwise I’ll be moving to another show.

I don’t see how this show can possibly last more than a season. You can only stretch this plot so far.

So, now Bridget has three people after her? The original Psycho, the FBI, and whoever wants Siobhan dead. Not to mention the local cops that want to know who killed the dude in Siobhan 's new house. Ballistics will reveal very quickly it’s the FBI agents stolen gun and that means Bridget is in deep shit.

This is one heck of a twisted up plot so far.
I didn’t watch it, but the plan all along was for Siobhan to have faked her death.

In the EW article quoted above, Gellar mentions that she’ll play Siobhan and the junkie in each episode as well as flashbacks to back before they had their falling out.
Did you watch last night? That wasn’t meant to be snarky, but a serious question because it was made very clear that Siobhan isn’t dead and is in Paris.

I don’t think anyone wants Siobhan dead. The impression I got was that Siobhan hired the hitman to kill Bridget so it would appear that someone killed her. But Bridget screwed that up by killing the hitman. My assumption from the first episode is that Siobhan was setting her sister up to take her place so she could kill her and frame… her husband?

Didn’t she show up at the end of this very episode? Bridget shot the dude, found the picture of Siobhan and then a shot of Paris is shown. Siobhan is shown in some fancy place and the phone rings. “Siobhan there has been a problem.” And she hangs up the phone.

So, I guess she really didn’t forgive Bridget and this was an elaborate way to get back at her? We’ll see!

I enjoyed it. But, I agree that the premise doesn’t seem to have the meat for more than one season. I could see it lasting one season, even an American length season, but after that it will get tired.

You must not have made it to the final scene.

I certainly didn’t - I found the show pretty thoroughly unwatchable about 20 minutes in, and watched an old Farscape episode on Netflix instead. So perhaps I’m not the target audience - but ye gods, that was painful. Mediocre writing, and SMG is pretty enough, but I remain unconvinced she could act her way out of a wet paper bag. (She worked as Buffy, I suspect, mostly because Joss Whedon had an excellent sense of her range, and took care to use other members of his ensemble cast when he needed emotional/character beats outside of that range.)
