Buffy season 6 on FX: WTF?

Meant to ask this last week, but what the hell is up with last season on FX? They didn’t air the musical, they didn’t air the asylum and they didn’t air the season finale? Is this some contract thing like when Buffy switched to UPN and they had first right to run some of the choicer season 5 episodes? Also, any idea why they’re jumping around in season 3 now as opposed to, say, starting at the beginning of season 3 if that’s what the season they want to show?

Apparently they’re showing some of the later season 6 episodes as reruns on UPN, according to a post I found on the newsgroups. “Normal, Again”(the asylum one) and “Villains” on December 24th and “Two to Go” and “Grave” on December 31st. Don’t know about the musical.

Otto, tell me about it! I almost went to the Pit last week when I was dying to see “Villains” and it went right to Season 3 instead.

I was having a bad day to begin with an dthat just had me screaming for blood.

Erm, no pun intended.

Typically syndication packages only include episodes which have been played at least twice on the original broadcast network; four of the last five S6 episodes were never rerun on UPN and so are not yet part of the syndication package. As SmackFu noted, UPN is planning to play these four episodes during the holidays, so they will then be available to FX, although since FX hasn’t updated their schedule recently, it’s not clear when they might air.

As for the musical, I don’t know what the deal is with that. FX often skips episodes when it reruns the series, most recently Amends and Into the Woods, which it is now showing out of order.

This is not uncommon. They save episodes from the previous season that they believe will have good potential for filling the gaps during rerun time on the main network and hold those back from syndication initially so that they can be used in December reruns. They are usually released once the previous season is in its second round of FX repeats.
